Hello Nacho Readers and welcome to a new year and this Round Up of news found on the internet! It is still cold outside around here, but why don’t you warm up with some news!
The New York Times has the news of the passing of Bob Einstien, who is known as the actor who played “Super” Dave Osbourne to many and was on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” More recently. I LOVED Super Dave many years ago and watched the animated show when it aired on FOX along with the live action stuff he played for a number of other places. Einstein was a funny man and he will be missed.
MSN also remembers “Captain” Daryl Dragons, one half of the 70’s Easy listening duo of the” Captain and Tennille” who also passed away yesterday at the age of 76. With hits like “Love will keep us together” and “Do it to me one more time”, they were easy listening hits for much of the latter half of the 70s. A heck of a musician and one who left his mark.
MSN also has a report on the first wedding of a gay couple in Austria. Austria had ruled back in 2017 that gay marriage would be official in 2019 and it is now. It is said that the women who are now married have been engaged for 4 years in waiting for this. Hope they have a wonderful life together. Hope this is also the first of many more marriages in the country.
Airlineratings has announced that Qantas Airlines has been named the safest airlines in the world for 2019. This is not the first time the Austrian airlines has been in this position. The airlines has been the top of safety lists for decades. The determination of these lists looks as such things as records of incidents, reactions to incidents, and also ratings of the airlines from their own editors. I don’t fly very much, but if you ever need to make a trip to Australia, this would be my pick.
The Guardian has this story also from Australia. Australian police sent multiple officers out to a man SCREAMING “Why don’t you die?!” and feared the worst, especially since there was a child involved in the house as well. Turns out the man is DEATHLY afraid of spiders and was trying to get rid of one that had gotten into his house. Remember this one of those Australian Spiders and I would be rather scared of them too! The man apologized and explained the situation and (other than the spider) no one was hurt.

The event takes place over two weekends in April with April 12 – April 14 and again at April 19 – April 21 in Southern California.
NBC News has this story of China landing a spacecraft on the dark side of the Moon, The first country to ever actually do that. The USA, the then USSR, and China itself have landed spacecraft on the “near” side of the Moon but never before has anyone ever landed a spacecraft on the “other” side of the Moon. This mission marks the first Moon mission to land there since 1976.
And this one comes REALLY close to home here in Maine.
WCSH 6 in Maine has this story of a MASSIVE fire in Belgrade, Maine when as SUV and a fuel tanker truck carrying 9,500 gallons of fuel struck each other at an intersection. The fuel caught fire and the smoke and flame could be seen for miles. Thankfully both men were alive and taken to the hospital for injuries. Glad they survived!
