It’s Nacho Average Week 1 College Football Games!

Including the grand-daddy of them all taking place in Atlanta this holiday weekend, the college football game slate contains four games with huge impact on the College Football Playoff hunt.

No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 3 Florida State in Atlanta

Saturday, 8 p.m. ET, ABC

No cupcakes here! Perhaps the biggest week 1 matchup in recent memory, both teams have the benefit of returning talented QBs. Alabama’s Jalen Hurts has the weapons around him to be dangerous. FSU’s Deondre Francois needs more help up front from his lineman and this week will be a great test.

No. 9 Michigan vs. No. 16 Florida in Arlington, Texas

Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC

Gators will be short-handed due to numerous suspensions, including top returning WR Antonio Callaway and RB Jordan Scarlett, reportedly stemming from misuse of school-issued debit cards. Florida coach Jim McElwain will start with Feleipe Franks at QB, but Malik Zaire and Luke Del Rio should also see the field as situations dictate. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has Wilton Speight under center to start, but John O’Korn, who backed him up last year, might also be heard from.

No. 20 West Virginia vs. No. 22 Virginia Tech in Landover, Md.

west virginia university

Sunday, 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC

Mountaineers are hoping for the return of former Florida QB Will Grier, who was suspended midway through the 2015 season for a PED violation and subsequently transferred to WVU. He’ll have standout RB Justin Crawford lining up with him but few other experienced receivers. Tech’s WR Cam Phillips is among the league’s top returning pass catchers, but his QB will be inexperienced redshirt freshman Josh Jackson.

No. 12 LSU vs. BYU in New Orleans

Saturday, 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN

The game was originally scheduled for Houston but was moved in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Harvey. LSU should be able to power its way to a win with talented running back Derrius Guice, but expect veteran BYU QB Tanner Mangum to test the Tigers’ strong defensive front.
