Transgender Self-Acceptance

In the transgender community, many struggle to find acceptance. Be it from family, close friends, or even a stranger. Finding acceptance from others is not the way to go.

Self-acceptance is the key to starting your journey and transition to the gender you identify as and feel like on the inside. Going through life trying to find yourself is difficult enough. Add no acceptance of yourself, and things can take a turn for the worse.

It can be very difficult at first learning to accept yourself. Take the time to accept yourself as you are. Once you do that, you will find that there are ways to be who you are, on the inside and out.

Society can be cruel. Everyone knows this. Letting society decide who you are is not okay. It plays a huge part in making others feel bad for being different. Sometimes, it can lead a trans individual to substance abuse, self-mutilation, and worse, suicide.

Self-esteem has a role in this as well. For example: If you tell someone that they’re terrible at something then that gets their self-esteem to thinking, well maybe they’re right. They’ll drive themselves crazy from just thinking they are no good and will never be any good. When you tell a transgender individual that they look like the gender they are trying not to look like, then that will hurt them deeply. If you have problems with self-esteem then surround yourself with supporting friends, family members, and even a therapist. Sometimes validation from someone close can help a lot.

Remember, self-acceptance is key!
