Today is National Coming Out Day. A day of awareness for everyone who is out and proud and celebrating who they are as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or even an ally. Today marks the 29th anniversary.
Oct. 11, 1987 about a half million people gathered in Manassas, Va. for the march on Washington. Proving that they were going to fight for their rights. And they did. This march resulted in many LGBTQ organizations coming about. Finally, Rob Eichberg and Jean O’Leary came up with the idea of a national day to celebrate coming out. They marked the day of the march as the anniversary.
So for all of the LGBTQ community and allies, continue being yourself. And if you’re ready to come out, then today can be the day. Celebrate coming out!
