10 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Go to the Gym

1.) Set a picture of what you want yourself to look like as the background on your phone. We are all constantly looking at our phones. If we set a picture on our phones of what we want to look like it will remind us of where we want to be multiple times throughout the day.

2.) Set reminders on your phone to go off at certain times of the day to motivate you. I usually set reminders like “Don’t be lazy!” or “Get up and be productive!” in order to get myself out of any funk that I may be in that day.

3.) Find a gym buddy that is very motivated that won’t let you skip. If you know someone who goes to the gym consistently ask them to help motivate you to go. Have them bother you before every work out to be sure you don’t miss!

4.) Set a reward for yourself if you make it to the gym a certain number of times in the week. Ice cream on Friday if you’ve managed to hit the gym four times during the week? Reward yourself, you deserve it!

5.) Create a countdown on your phone until your next big event so that you are motivated to be in shape for it. Spring break plans? Summer coming soon? Wedding coming up that you have to be in a tight dress for? Make a countdown to remind yourself of how much time you have until the day!

6.) Buy cute gym clothes/shoes. We all love showing off our cute new clothes so why not do this at the gym?

7.) Find good music to listen to that gets you pumped up. Good music can really affect someone’s mood. I love downloading a bunch of new music on my phone and then listening to all of it at the gym.

8.) Use a calendar to write down each day that you workout and document your progress. Weigh yourself and keep track of workouts! Seeing result can be the ultimate motivator.

9.) Ask yourself “How will I feel if I don’t make it to the gym?” You know that you will be mad at yourself if you don’t make it to the gym. Remember to ask yourself how do I want to feel at the end of the day?

10.) Look at a picture that you hate of yourself and remember why you need to hit the gym. Seeing ourselves at our worst can motivate us to get up and make a change!
