• Be aware of your strengths and weaknesses

In order to succeed in college, you must be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Spend some time to make a list of your strengths and weaknesses. Your strengths may be communication skills, analytical skills, creativity, etc. Your weaknesses may be time management, laziness, etc. A good thing to do is find ways to maximize your strengths and overcome or minimize your weaknesses.

• Set academic goals

Set yourself goals. You should begin your academic year by keeping your goals in mind. Your goal may be to achieve a certain goal point average or to learn a language you have been trying to avoid. The important thing is to have a goal. Starting your academic year without any goals is not wise as you will end up bunking classes and not doing assignments.

• Learn time management

You cannot succeed if you do not know how to manage time. Learn to manage your time wisely and smartly. Prioritize your tasks according to their importance. Keep track of the tasks you need to do by using your mobile or an old-fashioned planner. This will help you in planning on what other additional responsibilities you can handle.

• Adhere to a study routine

One of the ways to succeed in college is by establishing a study routine. Set apart a fixed time slot for studying every day, and be consistent. Allot some time to do your assignments or to read your textbooks. This will help you in preparing yourself for your classes. You should also choose a venue for your studies. This could be your library or your dorm.

• Find a study partner

It is a good idea to study with a partner. So find a study buddy with whom you can study. When you partner with someone to study, you are mutually helping each other. This could be in the form of writing assignments, sharing study notes, or studying for tests.

• Schedule study breaks

Studying is important. But it is also important to take small breaks. This is a strategy of high achievers. When you study for around one hour at a stretch, ensure that you take a ten-minute break. Then study for another hour and then take a ten-minute break. This will kill monotony and will keep you motivated and refreshed. You could watch television, listen to music or even do some exercise during your break.

College days are fun. College is an opportunity for you to learn and take control of your life.
