Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid to get a second season.

The popular Anime Title Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid has announced that a second season of the show will be airing and continuing the adventures of the slice of life series with the big part being Dragons that take the form of pretty girls.

The anime series started in Japan in early 2017 and is based on the manga (comics in Japan) that started in May of 2013. The series stars Miss Kobayashi, a regular woman who lives on her own and works in an office. She gets drunks one night and runs into a Dragon. She drunkenly befriends the dragon and offers to take her as a maid. Soon the dragon arrives and takes the human form of Tohru. Who then comes to deliver on the promise and becomes Kobayashi’s house-maid.

The series became really popular in both Japan and America for the English language audiences especially when more characters were added. Soon we were introduced to the smaller and kid-like dragon Kanna: Kino, who is Kanna’s classmate who has a crush on the little dragon; The shapely Lucoa, who is a dragon god who was summoned by their neighbor, the young boy Shouta and likes to tease him a lot; and the male dragon Fafnir, who becomes obsessed with Video Games.

The comic version of the series is originally written and illustrated by Coolkyoushinja. It was originally published by Futabasha and serialized by Monthly Action magazine in Japan. It has released seven chapters with an eighth in July and a tenth scheduled in January of 2020. In English, it is released by Seven Seas Entertainment where it is put out in Graphic Novel form.  It has been said the manga version of the series is nearing its climax, however it has already spawned several side stories like Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Elma’s Office Lady Diary and  Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Kanna’s Daily Life  so it is expected the comic version of the story will be around for a little while more. Another comic spin-off is “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Lucoa is my xx” that started to be serialized in Monthly Action magazine in January.

Lucoa, Tohru, Kanna, and Elma

The animated adventures of Kobayashi and her cast of Dragons are expected to go on for a while more with volumes of the manga being released, The episode are streamed by Funimation in English as well as Japanese. They are available on sites like Funimation’s own streaming site. They are also released on DVD and Blu-ray by Funimation and are available where DVDs and Blu ray’s are sold.

No word on when the animated episodes of the new season will air and when the English dubbed version will be released for sale. The series as of yet does not have an America television carrier (like Cartoon Network) so it does not air on American Television right now.

Despite the series not airing on American TV, it is still very popular with anime fans. It has spawned a lot of cosplay at conventions and other meetups. Groups of fans wear costumes and get together in groups all over the world.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid’s comic may be ending in the not to distance future, but the series will live on with other shows, spin-off manga, and most importantly, the fans and the buying audience. The series, no matter it’s form, still has a long way to go before the end of the story arrives.
