What's up,
YOUniversity TV watchers?

I'm Nicole Aaron and today we're
at Wright State University.

Want to catch a flight
with me through campus?

Let's go.

Wright State University is
located just 12 miles northeast

of Dayton, Ohio,
right down the road

from Wright-Patterson
Air Force Base.

We have, I think,
an excellent location

at Wright State.

We are a suburban setting.

But close enough to the city
so we have the amenities

of a larger city.

Area corporations, hospitals
that students can take

advantage of for their,
again, internship

or co-op opportunities.

I spend a lot of my time
on campus because

of school work
and things I'm involved in.

The university offers a lot
of different activities

throughout the school year
as far as concerts

and different events,
a lecture series.

Wright State is located
on 552 acres,

including a beautiful
biological preserve.

The campus is fairly new
with its modern buildings

that are all connected by
an underground tunnel,

making it very convenient
for those snowy and rainy days.

The underground tunnels
here are awesome.

It's probably the best
commodity we have.

During the winter when it's
like, you know, three inches

of snow on the ground,
four inches of snow

on the ground,
you just go down to the tunnels

and you can get to whatever
academic building you need

to get to, whatever class
you need to get to.

Wright enrolls nearly
13,000 undergrads,

57% female, 43% male,
and 16% minority students.

The student to faculty
ratio is 20:1,

and the average
class size is 25.

I think that the best part
about Wright State is that

we have, um, a very diverse
group of students here.

And we're really unified.

Wright State is a liberal
admission institution.

We admit 90% of the students
who apply to our institution.

Basically we're just making sure
that students have the academic

preparation to be
successful here.

So they've completed
the college prep curriculum

through high school,
have a 2.0 or better GPA,

18 or better on the ACT,
you can be admitted.

In-state students can expect to
pay about $17,000 a year

toward tuition, books,
and room and board.

Those coming from
out of state will pay closer

to $24,000 total.

Wright State offers more than
100 undergraduate degrees

and nearly 50 PhD, Master's,
and professional degrees.

Some student favorites are
Nursing, Biology, Education,

Engineering, and Accountancy.

I chose to come here to
Wright State actually for their

Engineering program.

It was one of the best
in the state so I decided

why not go to one of the best
schools in the state

for engineering?

As opposed to the traditional
approach in engineering

where we try and, you know,
tell the students,

"Go to the math department,
go to the science department,

take two years worth of math
and science prerequisites

and then you can come back
over to us and learn about

engineering," um,
at your average state university

that doesn't work, you know,
the students end up

switching to the business school
or something else along the way

because they don't really see
how all that rigor is connected.

So related to student success,
we really changed our

curriculum here where, um,
we take the students

right at the front end and we,
uh, essentially show them

how they're gonna use
all the math that they're

going to learn from, you know,
the calculus professors,

and how they're gonna actually
use that in their chosen majors

and how it might relate to
designing their Jeep, you know,

when they get out at the end.

All engineers are required to
do a senior design project.

My project was specifically
a Gauss cannon.

I got to apply all of my
electrical engineering

applications in one project,
applying everything that

we have learned thus far
into a project,

a working project,
was exciting.

Do you love the arts?

Then you'll be interested to
know that Wright State alumni

have been awarded Grammys,
Emmys, and even Oscars.

And some of their work
has been featured

at the Sundance Film Festival.

WSU employs a total
of 831 faculty members.

Eighty percent hold the highest
degree in their field.

The professors here are really,
um, people-friendly,

really down to earth people, so,
they're not really uptight,

you can go and talk to them
one-on-one and have

a casual conversation with them.

The Wright State Raiders
offer 16 NCAA division I

athletic programs,
and are members

of the Horizon League.

While living on campus
is not a requirement,

sixty-five percent of all first
year students choose to do so

in one of their attractive
on-campus residence halls.

Wright State has more than
190 student organizations,

ranging from academic
and cultural

to sports
and recreational clubs.

Wright State is named after
Orville and Wilbur Wright,

and is home to one
of the world's most

complete collections
of Wright brothers' papers

and memorabilia.

Consider yourself creative?

Then join like minds
and expand your horizon

at Wright State University.

Well, that's a wrap from
Wright State University.

I'm Nicole Aaron,
see you real soon.
