Hey, what's up guys?

Welcome to another wonderful
edition of YOUniversity TV.

Today we're at
Westfield State College.

I'm your host,
Shayna Jean.

And Nicole Aaron.

And let's go see how we're
gonna tackle this day today.

State on three.

One, two, three.

State!

Westfield State College's
rural campus is situated

in a residential neighborhood
in Westfield, Massachusetts.

Westfield's 256 acre campus is
filled with plush green spaces,

lots of trees and views
of the mountains.

Plus the school's directly
across the street from

the beautiful Stanley Park,
which houses gardens,

its own wildlife sanctuary,
plus when the weather's super

nice, students bring out their
bikinis and beach blankets.

Westfield has over
4,000 total students,

56% women, and 44% men.

The student to teacher
ratio is 18 to one.

The average incoming
freshman at Westfield

has a 3.1 high school GPA,
and average 1030 SAT score.

The average yearly cost
including room and board

for full-time students from
Massachusetts is $13,000,

while those who live out
of state will pay an average

of $19,000.

WSC offers 25 majors, 31 minors,
23 undergraduate degrees,

and seven graduate programs.

Popular majors include
Criminal Justice, Education,

Business Management,
Psychology,

and Communication.

We have our own elementary
school so we're very involved

in pre-school and
elementary education,

and middle school education,
secondary education.

And we have an array
of Master's degrees.

We have the only public
degree in Regional Planning

in New England.

We have the largest Criminal
Justice program in New England,

and the third largest
in the United States.

Westfield State College is
the second largest producer

of new teachers among
Massachusetts state colleges.

When's our midterm?

The college has extensive
education abroad opportunities,

including January and June
J Term programs,

where students earn up to four
credits in two or three weeks

by traveling abroad.

The opportunity for Westfield
State to have affordable

opportunities to go abroad
either for three week

J-Semesters--
January, June--

or full semesters is very
important to me because

that's the reality
of the future.

This was the past century,
the American century.

This is gonna be
a global century,

and we need to understand
how to do partnerships,

understand diversity,
and understand people

who look differently than we do,
because we're gonna be working

with them and in many instances,
we're gonna be working for them.

Westfield State employs
367 faculty members.

120 are tenured,
and 88% of instructors

hold their terminal degree.

The Westfield State Owls
have 20 Varsity teams,

and have won MASCAC
Athletic Conference

Smith Cup Championships.

The Owls have produced
some great athletes,

including Peter Laviolette,
coach of Olympic hockey,

and Stanley Cup 2006 winner
with the Carolina Hurricanes.

When it comes to
living arrangements,

students have their choice of
ten different residence halls--

traditional, suite style,
and apartment.

I highly recommend
living on campus.

I mean, if you wanna
commute that's great too,

but just living on
campus you get

a totally different experience.

You meet so many
more people,

and it's really you gain
that independence.

I love living in the residential
halls on campus.

Living in the residential
halls is a lot of fun.

I actually could have
been a commuter,

but I chose to live on campus
because you get to meet

a lot more people that way,
there's always events going on.

And you really get
that college experience.

Students at Westfield
are actively involved

in community service
and internship opportunities.

Find the place you fit in best.

Maybe it's one of the 30
intramural sports,

64 clubs or organizations,
or one of more than 1,500

student activities offered
outside the classroom.

Geneticist Nettie Marie Stevens
is one famous alum.

She discovered
how chromosomes

determine gender.

Pretty amazing.

Boy or girl, think your DNA is
wired to make you the next CEO,

PhD, or MBA?

Then live up to code
and fill out your application

for Westfield State
College today.

Alright guys, that's a wrap.

I'm Shayna.

Who?

Shayna.

I'm Shayna.

Who?

I...I don't get it.

Who, who?

I really...I don't understand.

We're the Owls.

Ohhh, you're hilarious.

I know.

Alright, that's Nicole.

See you guys next time.
