We're coming to you
from Denton, Texas.

and I'm Nicole Erin.

And I'm Sheana Jean,
and it is easy being green

on the campus of
the University of North Texas.

Let's see what else
the Eagles have to offer.

All right.

The University of North Texas
is set in the urban setting

of Denton, Texas,
a student-friendly college town

only 35 miles north of
the nation's fourth largest

metropolitan area,
Dallas/Fort Worth.

The University of North Texas is
located in a classic tree-lined

university setting on 866 acres.

UNT works hard to be safe.

Eagle Alert sends messages
to faculty, staff, and students

by email, text or phone to
let them know if there's

an emergency happening
on campus.

UNT is the state's fourth
largest university with nearly

35,000 students enrolled
from 140 different countries

and all 50 states.

Thirty-five percent of
the student body is of diverse

backgrounds, and UNT is one
of only nine US universities

that enroll more than
4,000 Hispanic students

and 4,000 African-American
students.

Despite having a very large
student population,

I think we are very personable
in terms of smaller sized

class sizes,
so we get much more

student/teacher interactions.

And I think that a lot of
students have many more

opportunities for research
over here than they might

at some of the other schools.

The average student successfully
admitted to the University of

North Texas is in the top
quarter of their graduating

high school class with an 1100
on the SAT or an ACT of 24.

UNT has been named one
of America's best college buys

by providing a private school
experience at a public school

cost with in-state residents
paying about $7,000

and those coming from out of
state paying closer to $15,500.

North Texas offers 99 bachelors,
104 masters,

and 49 doctoral degrees.

Some of the most popular among
students are business,

computer science, visual arts,
music, and education.

I've gotten involved as far as
research work is concerned.

I've gotten to know
my professors.

They've been able to tell me
about their own experiences.

And actually get some hands on
experience, as well as some

just lecture and theory.

So I feel pretty prepared.

UNT has the oldest and best
jazz program in the nation.

They travel all over the world
to perform.

And lucky for us, we get
to go inside and listen.

We do about a thousand concerts
a year here at the University of

North Texas, which is pretty
extraordinary when you think

about the number
of programs we have.

And it's everything from
solo recitals to what we call

departmental recitals.

We have bands, and orchestras,
and choruses, and opera.

UNT has the largest play/therapy
training program in the world.

What's play/therapy?

Well, play/therapy is to
children what counseling

is to adults.

Children play just
like adults talk

to communicate to each other.

That sounds like fun.

It sure is.

North Texas employs
over 1600 faculty members.

849 hold their PhDs
and 539 are tenured.

They make the classes enjoyable.

One of the things,
we're a larger university.

So you do have a lot
of large classes.

But one of the things they've
really focused on here is

making the large classes
feel small.

And the faculty have
taken that to heart.

And that makes us
really different

and really makes
our faculty shine.

Because even though you
might be in a class of 300,

you're gonna feel like
you're very close

with your faculty member.

They're available for you.

They're going to recognize
you in class.

The UNT Mean Green compete
at the Division I-A level

as a member of
the Sun Belt Conference.

From 2001 to 2004, UNT won four
straight Sun Belt Conference

football championships.

I love doing the Eagle caw.

Everyone just gets
really involved.

And you know, it's a fun time
for everyone.

Students can choose
from 14 traditional, co-ed,

and upper-class halls.

Plus there are a number of
Greek houses on campus

that provide student
living quarters.

I lived on campus for
two years actually.

Lived at Clark Hall, hey!

I loved living on campus.

It's really social, so you know,
if you're a bubbly person,

you want to chat a lot,
good to live on campus,

'cause it's definitely
a social atmosphere.

There are over 300 student
organizations on campus,

including 30 fraternities
and sororities.

Or you can get involved
in some club sports.

I never expected to come
to school and have

the opportunity to host my own
TV show or been president

of two organizations or to be
my own tour guide on campus,

you know, and meet
with Dr. Battaille

who's the president
of the university.

I never thought I would be
able to do those things.

And UNT has really provided
those opportunities for me.

One thing I do in my fraternity
is we do a lot of step shows,

and I'm normally the one that
puts on, makes up the steps

and the routine and the show
and whatnot.

That's always really fun.

more positively.

This has been so much
better than watching

those reruns of Dr. Phil.
