Hey, what's up, YOUniversity TV fans. I'm Nicole Aaron. And I'm Shayna, and you're watching the University of Louisville, home of the Cardinals. So you're probably wondering why we've got these shirts on. Well, there's a rare family of white squirrels that are only found right on this campus. So let's take our tour and see if we can find any. The University of Louisville is located in Louisville, Kentucky, with Belknap campus just three miles from downtown. Well, Louisville's a great place, because you have that, you have the campus feeling but you also, you're in a city. So there's always something going on. There's concerts, there's events downtown. I guess probably the thing we're most known for is that we're the home of the Kentucky Derby. And it happens at Churchill Downs, which is only about, I guess, two to three minutes from campus. So we always make sure we have exams and everything done before Derby so that students can enjoy all the activities that go on. There's actually about three weeks of activities that go on leading up to Derby, parades and huge fireworks displays and races. U of L is made up of three different campuses. The main campus, Belknap, is 287 acres, and houses seven of the university's eleven colleges and schools. Only a few miles from the main campus is the Health Sciences campus, which houses the medical, dental, nursing and public health programs. The Rapid Prototyping Center allows students to interact with state of the art equipment that they'll be exposed to in their industry. These machines act as three dimensional laser printers, where they build the students' own designs out of plastic and metal. U of L enrolls roughly 21,000 students from all 50 US states and 116 countries around the world. Men make up 49% of the student body, while women make up 51%. Approximately 75% of U of L's incoming freshmen were in the top 25% of their graduating class. The average GPA is 3.46, and the average ACT is between 21 and 27. Students who reside in Kentucky will pay about $7500 in tuition per year, while nonresidents will pay about $18,000. Additional fees for room and board will tack on about $6,000. The University of Louisville offers 70 bachelor, 78 master, and 22 doctorate degrees. Popular majors include business and engineering. Oh, the engineering school's very unique. We offer an integrated five year engineering program. No one else in the country offers that. So basically our students come in as freshmen, and five years later, they leave with both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. And in the middle there, they co-op three semesters. So they're essentially going out into the world to be engineers, competing against the vast majority of people who just have bachelor's degrees and no experience. They're coming out with master's degrees and a full year of co-op experience. We have some very outstanding achievements in the area of the health sciences. The first artificial heart was implanted here at the University of Louisville. The first hand transplant was done here at the University of Louisville. Two faculty members here at the University of Louisville were part of the team that founded the cervical cancer vaccine that is now well known as Gardasil. I think my education that I'm getting here is totally preparing me for the future. I'm involved in a mentoring program where I get to work alongside doctors and see what my future's gonna be like. The classes that I have are definitely preparing me to take the MCAT and the other things that I'll need for the future. Astronauts get to train in zero gravity, and that's cool. But these conditions can also serve to save a life. Enlisted by NASA, researchers at the University of Louisville are looking at the possible benefits of a weightless environment to treat a heart attack. Louisville employs 1,354 faculty members. Seventy-three percent hold a terminal degree. Students have the advantage with a student to faculty ratio of 19:1 and an average class size of 35. Faculty at the University of Louisville are great. They share their experiences with their students in the classroom, outside of the classroom in service learning projects, through their research, bringing students in to help them do their research. The Louisville Cardinals Division I team compete in the Big East Conference. They are the only NCAA school since 2000 to win a BCS bowl game, to be in the men's basketball Final Four, to compete in the baseball World Series in college, and to win a national championship in track and field. While getting a great education from U of L, you can find home at one of the traditional residence halls, suite-style rooms, or on-campus apartments. There are also residence halls for honor students, first year students, and campus leaders. Living on campus is the greatest thing ever. I've lived in the same dorm since I've been here. Carr's Hall, baby. It's the best on campus. Basically, it kind of connects you more with the people that you're with. U of L offers over 170 clubs and organizations on campus, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, College Democrats, and the spirit club, The L Raisers. Go Cardinals! All right, guys, we are standing in front of the Red Barn, where tons of student activities are always happening, like dances, cookouts and comedy shows. Sounds like fun, right? You better check it out when you get here. Only five casts were ever made of this famous statue, The Thinker by Auguste Rodin. This particular cast is said to be made by the artist himself for the St. Louis World Fair. It was a gift to the city, and now it's a monumental symbol of the university. So if you're looking for a nationally recognized research university with a commitment to the liberal arts and sciences, make sure you keep the University of Louisville on your "go see" list. All right, guys, hope you had an awesome time with us at the University of Louisville. Thanks for joining us here in Kentucky. I'm Nicole. I'm Shana. And this is Cardinal Bird. Bye.
