Hello YOUniversity TV watchers. Today we're at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and I'm Nicole Erin. I'm Ferrari St. Paul. And in the middle of this beautiful 328-acre campus is the bayou. This here, how awesome is this? Really cool. Students can boat and kayak. Ski. And fish. Right in the middle of campus! Wouldn't it be funny if I pushed her in right now? No, it really wouldn't. I'd laugh. Monroe, you mean "Funroe." Yeah, there's so much to do here. There's a mall, of course, in Monroe. Then you have movies. And then the fun restaurants around, like Chili Verde and Moe's. First thing I noticed were the trees. I just couldn't get over them. They just took my breath away. The place is really pretty. The bayous are just absolutely scenic, spectacular I would say. ULM has an enrollment of more than 8,500 students who come from 43 states and 47 countries. Sixty-five percent of ULM students are female, and thirty-five percent are male. The average class size is 24, and the student to faculty ratio is eighteen to one. The students are wonderful. They come from all across the state, and I think many other states in the US and other countries. Many of them are first generation students. In fact, the class I'm teaching now is probably one of the most diverse classes I've ever taught. All of our students are special. We love our students. And we really focus on the whole student. We like to make life changing experiences here at ULM. The admission requirements can be found on the ULM website. Don't forget to check out their out of state fee waivers. All you need is a 21 ACT or a 980 SAT, a 2.25 high school GPA, and be ready for college level coursework. Tuition fees are $4,000 per year for in-state students and $10,000 for out-of-state students. Waivers are granted frequently if students meet the minimum admissions requirements. There are 96 graduate and undergraduate programs offered across different fields at ULM. A few student favorites are pharmacy, nursing, biology, education, and accounting. ULM's grads of Health Sciences and Pharmacy programs are in high demand. In fact, there's a 100% job placement rate for Pharmacy graduates. Right now, students are working in this interactive pharmacy care lab. And they're practicing their compounding techniques. They're creating alternate medications for those who might not want to take a pill. So what are they making, Nicole? They're making lip balms and powders... Drops...suppositories... Lollipops for kids. Creams...and we're learning how to do this with them. ULM has 410 full-time faculty members. One-hundred-eighty-five are tenured and two-hundred-eighty-two have their terminal degree. Our professors are usually 100% available for us. If you go to their office and they're not there, you can just shoot 'em an email and they will become available to you. They do a really good job of trying to make themselves available for the students so that we can get the information that we need to do well in the program. Very accessible faculty. Very easy to talk to. The faculty eat with the students. You'll see them at a table in the Student Union building or the cafeteria, as well as the administrators here. We're really all about being immersed with the students and listening to them on a day to day basis. If we're not meeting the needs of our students and addressing their concerns, then the university can't continue to progress. That's right. This is the spirit behind the 16 varsity teams that compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Sun Belt Conference. The Warhawks also boast of 20 national titles for the waterskiing team. Yeah, way to go! ULM students are totally living it up. Not only do they have a great view of the bayou from their room, but there are nine residence halls, and an apartment complex available on campus. Living on campus is great. It puts me in a central location to where I'm involved in a lot on campus. So I have to be in meetings. I have to be at events. So I'm right there; I'm in the know. I know what's going on at all times. And it's just a short walk to my classes at the Coliseum. And even across campus, it's not that bad. And I never have to worry about parking, which is probably the best plus. The Student Union is like the mothership of all the clubs and organizations, like campus activities board, the student orientation leaders prep, Greek life, the Maroon Platoon. Let's go see what I can join. I'm currently the Kappa Sigma fraternity president. I'm a senator for the Education and Human Development of College for Student Government Association. I'm involved in Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Epsilon Delta, mortar board, honor societies, and then the Association of Students in Kinesiology. Wow. Just to name a few. Ha ha ha. Well, that's it for the Warhawks. Thanks for hanging out with us here today. Goodbye from Louisiana. We hope to see you next time. Boola, boola, boola, whoo!
