Hey, what’s up
YOUniversity TV fans?

You’re watching UC Davis.

I’m Shayna.

And I’m Nicole.

Let’s go for our tour.

UC Davis is located in Northern
California just 15 minutes

from the state’s capital,
Sacramento.

In the beautiful college town of
Davis we will find more bicycles

than in any other
city in the U.S.

Kind of an experience coming up
here seeing so many bikes.

You hear about it,
but not till the first day

you kind of see
so many bikes and you’re,

it’s really surprising that
a city could have so many.

Whitewater rafting,
sea kayaking, and camping

make UC Davis
a nature-lover’s playground.

Here at Outdoor Adventures
students can partake

in all of these
activities and more.

With over 5,000 green acres,
UC Davis is the largest campus

in the University
of California system.

Despite its size, it’s easy
to get around by bike

or hop on one of the free buses,
like the double-decker one,

to get to class or go
out on the town.

Generally we go downtown to hang
out, we do a lot of eating.

It’s a very mixed cultural
eating environment

which is kind of strange
for such a small town.

But there's Mediterranean food,
there’s Indian food.

We eat a lot.

Also Sac is only half an hour
away so we go down there a lot,

we go to concerts but
concerts come to town too,

there's Freeborn Hall on campus
where concerts come.

UC Davis has a total enrollment
of more than 30,000 students.

About 24,000 are undergraduates.

Women make up 55.3% of
the student body, 44% are men.

92% of students
are from in state,

3.28% are from out of state,

and 4.3% of students
are international.

Admission to UC Davis
is very selective.

Applicants who are admitted well
exceed UC eligibility criteria.

On average, students earned
a high school GPA of a 3.94,

SAT critical reading
score of 603,

SAT mathematics score of 640,
SAT writing score of 612,

and ACT composite score of 27.

After a student submits their
application in November,

their entire documents
are looked at.

We also look broadly at the
experience the students had.

So we look at volunteer work,
community service,

those kinds of things also play
an important role in admission

to the University of
California at Davis.

California residents will pay
around $9,000 in tuition a year

and non-residents about $29,000.

Campus housing and meal plans
can add an average of $12,000.

Campus safety is on
everyone's mind,

and it’s a top priority
at UC Davis.

The school has
its own full service

police and fire department

and an automatic
notification system.

Truck 34 responding!

More than 100 majors
and 86 graduate programs

are offered at the
four academic colleges

and five professional schools.

I think one of the big draws
of UC Davis is actually

the pregraduate and
professional advising program

because so many of our students
are already thinking about

coming to UC Davis
to go on for graduate

and professional school.

Some of the top favorites
are psychology,

biological sciences,
economics, political science,

and communications.

The type of research
that we address

in the college of engineering
at UC Davis typically involves

problems that are
relevant to society,

to the world as a whole.

One of the characteristics
of our college of engineering

at UC Davis and the
campus as a whole

is the involvement of
undergraduate students

in the research activities.

UC Davis is known as a
first tier research university

with a student to faculty
ratio of 17 to one.

98% of faculty
members hold doctoral

or professional degrees.

Others are distinguished
artists, musicians,

or other professionals.

UC Davis is a leader in
environmental research

and hybrid technology and
its viticulture and enology

programs have helped fuel
the California wine industry.

A two mile arboretum on campus
serves as a living laboratory

for researchers.

It’s a hotspot for bird
and plant lovers

and a nice escape from studies.

UC Davis’ Aggie teams
have recently become

an official member of
the Big West Conference

and play at the NCAA
Division I level.

The University sponsors
14 varsity sports for women

and 12 for men,

and offers one of the most
diverse athletic programs

in the country.

The Aggie Pack is our
student section at games.

We go to every single
UC Davis athletic event.

We’re really known
for cheering loud,

but also cheering twice as hard.

Around 90% of freshmen live
on campus and transfer students

can apply if
there’s availability.

Undergraduate residents
have study areas and lounges

and come equipped
with kitchenettes,

high speed internet
and cable TV.

With close to 500 clubs
and organizations on campus

you’re sure to find
your passion.

The activities and
recreation center,

better known as the ARC is
a social and recreational hub

for students.

They have cardio, weights,
basketball, racquetball,

volleyball, a rock climbing
wall, track, and much more.

I’m in the hula club on campus.

I didn't do hula before I
came to Davis and I saw them

perform as a freshman
and decided I needed

to get involved.

So I just walked up to them and
asked them when practices were

and all of a sudden I was in.

We have a big luau coming up.

Intramural sports
are a big deal here.

We have the biggest intramural
sports program outside of Texas.

My favorite one has
to be inner tube water polo.

Did you know that UC Davis
alumni includes

NASA astronauts Steve Robinson
and Tracy Caldwell,

"Chronicles of Narnia"
screenwriter Chris Marcus,

and US Treasurer
Anna Escobedo Cabral?

So if you’re into research,
plan a trip to the moon,

or want to write
the next big thing,

you might want to
take a closer look

at University of
California Davis.

Thanks for joining
us here at UC Davis.
