Get ready for an out of this world experience at Rowan University. Hey guys, I'm Jessica Woody for Youniversity TV. Today, we're starting this campus tour at the school's planetarium, and there are a lot more sites to see, so let's get to it.
Rowan University is located in Glassboro, Southern New Jersey, between Philadelphia and Atlantic City, and just 30 minutes from the famed South Street and 45 minutes from the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The university maintains 2 New Jersey campuses, a 200-acre suburban residential setting in Glassboro, and a 5-storey urban facility in the University District of Camden. The 200-acre tree-lined Glassboro campus contains 104 smart classrooms throughout the main campus and the Camden campus. What they've done is called [inaudible] after hours, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It just have like, I don't know, like a big carnival for big kids in the student center, so that way you don't have to worry about going off campus, of going home for the weekend. You can just stay here and have lots of fun. Rowan enrolls 9,000 undergrads, 45 percent are male, 55 percent female, and there is a 19 percent minority enrollment. Students looking to attend Rowan have an SAT math and critical reading score between 1090 and 1260, and rank in the 21 percent of their high school class. The average SAT of an incoming freshman is 1163. Instate students will pay around 11,000 dollars a year and 18,000 for out-of-staters. Room and board is about 9,500 dollars. Rowan offers 58 undergraduate majors among 7 academic colleges, as well as off campus and Saturday degree completion programs for individuals with busy schedules. A few student favorites are education, engineering, and communications. One of the things that we try to distinguish ourselves among other business schools is project-based learning. Our students work with companies on real life projects. Many times they're affiliated with a class or a student organization guided by a faculty member. Therefore, when our students apply for positions when they're ready to graduate, not only do they have the course work under their belt, but they have real life experience in the workplace. The internships they do here are being placed in a lot of very interesting and well-paying jobs right after graduation. Particularly in engineering, communications, and the business programs, they're doing very well quickly in the real world. The classes, I absolutely love their small classes. Especially as like a bio major, the labs aren't huge, I'm not in the class with 400 people, my bio classes are 24 people max 'cause that's how many seats there are. So you really get like a personal connection with your teachers, with your advisers. Rowan's communication students are topnotch. They won more than 100 national and regional awards and published more than 20 original works all in just 5 years. Rowan employs 583 faculty and 818 fulltime staff members, 87 percent of faculty hold their terminal degrees. The faculty are here because they love to teach. Many, many of them aren't actively engaged in research, but a faculty member is not retained and promoted unless they are excellent in the classroom. And I've had experienced for 40 years in different universities around the country, and I have never seen a place where the faculty are as committed to the quality of educational experiences as they are here. Students [inaudible] about the fact that the faculty regularly give them their home telephone numbers, tell them to contact them at anytime, they're here to help students achieve their educational goals. We can spend individual time and we work closely with our students. And, you know, I have the time to spend tutoring as they need it, and whereas if we were a larger school, I might not be able to do that. Hey, who are you? Yeah, that's what I asked. Oh, forget about it. Rowan has one of the strongest NCAA division 3 athletic programs in the nation. In fact, the Profs had won more than 10 national championships in more than 5 sports. Rowan is a community with 8 residence halls, 3 apartment complexes, and townhouses. I absolutely loved dorm life. I thought it was the greatest thing ever, become best friends with all your roommates, all your suitemates, it's absolutely fantastic. Rowan has more than 100 clubs and organizations with professional, cultural, and service activities. Well, you do come here and you spend some time in the Rec Center, right? Yeah. I love the Rec Center-- What do you do here? --'cause there are a ton of stuff to do. Ton of-- We have lots of different exercise classes. I really like try to take all of them. Not ping pong. [ Laughter ] [ Simultaneous Talking ] But you do take karates, right? And you do take-- Yeah, tons of karates classes, yoga, swimming. We have kickboxing, belly dancing-- Oh, cool. --[inaudible] cardio classes, different abs classes, stuff to work different muscle groups. The classes are really fun. Looking to take your college experience beyond the US? Well, you're in luck 'cause Rowan offers more than 200 Study Abroad programs in more than 50 countries, and the highlights about it are your financial aid travels with you, students of all majors are eligible, and the credit you were an overseas count toward a Rowan degree. Spain, here I come. Adios. So if you plan to set sail without losing sight of your degree, no worries. You can keep on course with Rowan University. Wow, what a view. You know, this is something that not too many students get to see, an exclusive view of the entire campus from up here on top of the library tower. You can even see the residence halls from up here. We hope you've enjoyed the sights and sounds of Rowan. For Youniversity TV, I'm Jessica, we're out of here. [ Music ] |
