It's the second most photographed spot in Pennsylvania, second to only the Liberty Bell. Jessica: Hey Levon, take my picture. Levon: Jess I would, but we don't have time for that. We've got to kick off this campus tour immediately. Jessica: All right. Let's go. Levon: Penn State University is located in State College, Pennsylvania. The university has 24 campuses throughout the state, and a virtual world campus for online classes. Taking some breath taking views of Mountain Etnie [phonetic] while hiking or mountain biking. Jessica: Make sure you stop by the Promin [phonetic] Museum of Art on your visit. It's got over 6,000 works of art and 11 galleries. Oh, and don't forget to take your picture next to the lion pole [phonetic] statue, it's a popular photo op for visitors. Come on. Levon: Penn State's University Park Campus is 5,448 acres large. The biggest of 24 campuses. There are true line pathways, historic architecture, and new age buildings with cutting edge technology. Plus, in total, Penn State has over 18,000 acres of campus. A lot of space to travel. Jessica: Penn State University Park enrolls more than 44,100 students representing 50 states and 123 countries. 45% are women, 55% men, 73% are Pennsylvania residents, and 13% are students of color. Even though there are so many students that go to school here, it's still like a family. And if you see a Penn Stater walking down the street somewhere else and you're not at Penn State it's like you've known each other forever. Anywhere you go you're gonna find a Penn State, Penn State alum, and it's, it's definitely become a family to me. We expect the students to be well prepared and have challenged themselves within their curriculum within high school. And 2/3 of the decision is based on the high school grade point average. The other 1/3 is based on standardized test scores. And this year we'll require the writing score in the SAT and also the ACT. Jessica: The estimated tuition and [inaudible] for Pennsylvania resident is $15,000. And a non-Pennsylvania resident will pay closer to $26,000. The estimated room and meal expenses are an additional $8,500. Levon: Penn State has more than 160 majors in 11 colleges. Most majors can be started at any Penn State campus. Neil has a very dedicated staff of corporate relations and career placement professionals who spend their time building relationships with companies who are looking very much to recruit [inaudible] students, in particular. And so what do we do to get our students prepared for that? Well we have over 200 companies represented here in terms of corporate recruitment. We have over 60,000 active Penn State alumni. And those are loyal, dedicated alumni represented in almost 90 of the fortune 100 companies. Students who are interested in forecasting can jump right in from day 1. They can join the campus weather service, where they will produce weather forecasts for the student run newspaper and for radio stations in the area. If they're interested in the video side of things they can join the video branch of campus weather service. And from the first day they're on campus get experience working in the [inaudible] in front of maps just like professional televisions meteorologists. Jessica: Penn State was the first university to offer a course in agricultural bio-security. And is helping to protect the nation through their bio-security education and on going research. Levon: If you want a different option, not to worry, Penn State's popular 2 plus 2 program allows students to [inaudible] from the smaller campus and then move onto University Park. Jessica: Penn State has more than 5,600 total full time faculty members combined. Professors are really good. Very eager to help you. They always want to see you do better. Always want to see you achieve academically, in the classroom, also outside the classroom. Levon: University Park offers intra collegiate competition at the Division 1 level, while their other campuses play at the Division 3 level. The [inaudible] Lions have won 62 national collegiate team championships, and have one of the largest football stadiums in the country. We have our, we are Penn State [inaudible] which is probably the coolest thing that you'll experience at a football game. You have like 110,000 people, and half of the stadium is [inaudible] and the other half responds to Penn State. And I think they can hear it from like a mile away. Jessica: Hey Levon, it's trivia time. Levon: Okay, go for it. Jessica: Okay, so who's been coaching the football team since 1966? Levon: Ah, that's easy. Joe Pah. [phonetic] Jessica: Who? Levon: Joe Paterno. [phonetic] [inaudible] active coach is vested into the college football hall of fame. He has most wins against current NCAA Division 1 football team, as well as more [inaudible] than any other coach in college football history. Oh, that is the guy you're talking about right? Jessica: Yeah. I, I mean I knew that. First year students at University Park are required to live on campus in one of the may available residence halls. In later years students may choose to live off campus. Levon: Penn State University has over 1,200 student organizations university wide, including the Monty Python Society, a juggling club, and [inaudible] broom sticks club. If you've got a sweet tooth the Penn State Creamery is the palace to be. It is the nations largest creamer. Jessica: That's right. This place is known for its sherbets, ice cream, and [inaudible], which is sold in the campus store. But most people never get to step back into the factory where it's actually made. Levon: [inaudible] at the creamery comes from the university dairyer. [phonetic] Jessica: Oh, wish you were here. What's on your list? Academics? Loads of clubs? Sports? And a diverse international community? Well Penn State University is all of that and more. Levon: Okay, so Penn State was totally unforgettable. I mean, they've got great sports teams, a diverse community, and tons of clubs to get involved in. Jessica: and don't forget about the Penn State Creamery. That ice cream was top notch.
