Welcome to the University of North Dakota. It is a college town located in Grand Forks. I'm Nicole Aaron, and this is YOUniversity TV, where we put you in university. Come join me on our campus tour. The University of North Dakota was established all the way back in 1883. UND is located in the town of Grand Forks, North Dakota. It is a vibrant and attractive college town of 50,000 on the banks of the Red River of the North, which separates North Dakota from Minnesota. The Grand Forks area has been really good for me actually because it's located fairly close to home. It's a couple hours from the Twin Cities, so I mean, if you want to go down for a weekend, you can go down for a concert or anything like that. For students, there's lots of job opportunities, waitressing, like working at a hospital, CNA jobs. And there's always something to do. The university's 550-acre campus includes more than 200 buildings, ranging from classic college to modern contemporary, and stretches a mile from east to west. The school is widely admired for its beauty. People belong here. They walk in the door, and not only do they find themselves rewarded in the classroom, but they find themselves rewarded by the experience. And at the end of the day, it's a combination of both of those things that really provide the well-rounded learning environment and the total package that is the college experience. The University of North Dakota is a medium size school of nearly 13,000 students with a male to female ratio of 50/50. Students come from all 50 states and 50 different countries to take advantage of all UND has to offer. In addition to core high school classes, incoming freshmen are required to have an 18 to 22 on the ACT, or an 870 to 1030 on the SAT, depending on their high school grade point average. The reason you go to college is to get that on-campus experience of understanding how you relate to other people who are in your own profession. At UND, you're surrounded by people on the same journey. So you really do get a chance to actually practice what you're going to be after you leave here. Tuition for North Dakota residents runs approximately $6,000 per year and approximately $14,000 for out of state residents. Room and board costs are just over $5,000 per year for everyone. Agreements with 20 states and two Canadian provinces allow students to attend at a reduced rate. There are nearly 200 fields of study available for students, including about 100 for undergrads. Combine that with over 2800 different classes, and you've got lots of choices to explore new worlds. Learning never ends. I'm standing underneath the eternal flame of knowledge. Each figure represents career paths and professions at UND. UND has distinctive aviation entrepreneurship programs, along with other popular ones, like business, nursing, engineering, and education. The university is also one of only just 47 public universities in the country with both law and medical schools. Talk about reaching new heights in college. UND has one of the top aviation programs in the nation. It has the world's largest nonmilitary fleet of training aircraft. UND works closely with NASA on a number of research projects. Just imagine like waking up in the morning, driving out to the airport, hopping in a plane and flying down to Minneapolis. You know, you just get above the clouds, sit back and relax. And that's class for the day. So I mean, it's pretty awesome, I'm not gonna lie. Ninety-four percent of the professors at the University of North Dakota have a PhD or the highest degree in their field. Faculty on campus here are, they're really top notch. They are always very helpful. Obviously, you're gonna have some professors that you don't get along with. But most of them are there for you. They understand, you know, what college students are going through. The faculty at Studio One especially are really, I mean, they're just amazing. They've become my family members. And it's gonna be really tough leaving next semester, knowing that, you know, I won't get to see them every day, a couple of times a day, like I do now. In addition, hands on learning is enhanced with a low student to teacher ratio of 18:1. And just five percent of undergrad classes have more than 100 students. Athletics are strong on campus, especially in hockey, where the men's team has won seven Division I national championships. Former basketball alumnus Phil Jackson has won nine NBA titles coaching the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. Fifteen spacious residence halls give students choosing to live on campus a great chance to make new friends and be close to their classes. Greek life is prevalent on campus, as well, with 18 fraternities and sororities available to students. I'm in Alpha Chi Omega, and my experience with that is amazing. I've met my best friends there. And the girls that have been there with me since freshman year and the experiences that we've all shared will go with us for a long way. Hi there, you're watching Studio One, telecast live on Thursday afternoons from the University of North Dakota. It's a student produced television show featuring news, weather, sports, entertainment and more. That's a wrap. UND celebrates culture and has strong American Indian and international centers on campus, among others. In addition to the more than 250 organizations and clubs that are available, music, dance, and Broadway productions are also available for students to enjoy. UND students have access to a $20 million state-of-the-art wellness center with plenty of weight stations, a running track, climbing wall, courts and much more. If you're looking for a high flying college adventure, coupled with the excitement of successful sports teams on campus, and an atmosphere that helps students succeed, the University of North Dakota might be a great choice for your college career. Thanks for joining us on our campus tour of the University of North Dakota. I'm Nicole Aaron, goodbye for now. YOUniversityTV maintains all editorial control on videos produced by YOUniversityTV.
