What's up guys? I'm Ferrari St. Paul and this is Youniversity TV, where we put you in university. Today we are checking out Mississippi State University to get a taste of life as a Bulldog. Mississippi State University, the up and coming city of Starkville, Mississippi, just a short drive from Jackson and Columbus, Mississippi.

There's lots of creative things you can do. There's clubs. There is plenty of activities like going to the movies. Over 80 restaurants in Starkville, a lot of them are likely owned, and plus there's always plenty of video on campus.

MSU has the largest attendance of any university in the state, which is why they need every inch of the 4,200-acre campus and its 325 buildings. On top of them, many acres of green space surrounding the academic buildings and research facilities, the university owns an additional 80,000 acres of land spread across the state.

MSU is a sweet school. The Starkville community and area businesses are big Bulldog fans. Here at Cold Stone Creamery, the school even has its own signature scoop.

Mississippi State enrolls about 17,000 students who represent all 82 counties in Mississippi, 50 states and nearly 75 foreign countries. Fifty one percent of the student body are men, 48 percent are women, and minorities make up 23 percent.

Students here are fine, just the friendliness of everybody. It's like a really well-blended college and everybody gets along. And then you go and walk down to our food court, you'll see just--people just mingling and sitting together having a good time. That's a piece I like about Mississippi State.

Students that apply to MSU with a minimum 3.2 GPA on the CPC will automatically qualify. But beware, admission requirements can be a little rocky, so pay attention and check out the details listed on Mississippi's website at msstate.edu.

We wanna make sure that students are gonna do well when they get here so we do look at those academic classes in high school, SAT, ACT, because we do want everyone to have access to a college education, so we don't make it so rigorous that the average student won't have a chance to come to Mississippi State.

For all of you students who reside in Mississippi, you will pay about 5,000 dollars in tuition while those coming from out of the state will pay about 12,000 dollars per year. In addition, all students will pay about 7,000 dollars for their room and board. Mississippi State offers a total of 174 bachelor and master's programs and also some doctoral level programs. The most popular among undergraduate students are business administration and elementary education.

You know the animal and dairy science is really big here, agriculture. Engineering is a great aspect here and my major is one of the best you can get as far as a prereq to get into physical therapy school.

MSU is the first university in the country to offer a degree program in landscape contracting and management.

So, it looks like we got rid of that nasty cold front and we will have plenty of sunshine and clear skies in Starkville tomorrow. If you're looking to combine your interest in weather and TV, MSU has a widely recognized broadcast and meteorology program.

At the state's only veterinary school of medicine, students don't just learn by the book. They're hands on taking care of these furry 4-legged patients. A program so unique, other schools have adopted this style of teaching.

MSU employs more than 1,000 faculty members and 85 percent of the teaching body holds a terminal or highest degree in their field. The student to faculty ratio is 14 to 1.

First become our best friends. They are open, they give you their number, they give you their home number, email, encourage to go to their office, and that's what they want you to do. They are here for you.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs participate at the NCAA Division I level in the competitive 12-member Southeastern Conference.

I'm actually one of the mascots. So our game day is pretty exciting. For me it's busy. We have the junction, like everybody is down there. The game is like, it's just a great atmosphere. The cowbells kinda keep things intense during the game.

This tradition dates back to the early 1900s, when a Jersey cow interrupted a football game. When MSU won the game, the cow became a lucky charm. Today, the cow no longer shows at games but he is represented by the bell.

Pretty intimidating inside the stadium and it's loud outside the hump as well. So the game atmospheres are great.

All MSU freshmen are required to live in one of 15 residence halls available on campus.

Pretty much every experience that you have in the dorm is amazing. [Inaudible] and she's still my roommate now, we are best friends.

Eighty three percent of students are involved in one of the 300 organizations representing everything from religious groups to service groups, club sports and honorary societies. About 17 percent of the students on campus are part of Greek life.

We have a lot of organizations to get involved with no matter what your, you know, no matter what you're like. We even have like a lefthanders club for people who are left handed. So it's just pretty awesome I guess. You know you can get involved in anything you wanna do.

MSU offers many state of the art tools for learning. Ready for an electrifying experience? MSU is home to the largest high voltage laboratory in any North American university. Let's make some lightning. [Noise] And if that's not enough to spark your interest, this Sycamore tree's roots can be traced back to the moon. As a sapling, it blasted off to outer space on the Apollo mission and later returned back to earth right here outside of Dorman Hall.

Mississippi State has a lot to offer, great educational program, great culture opportunities, again, many, many opportunities for students to get to know students as well as to discover themselves.

So if you're looking for a state of the art university with hands-on learning and great opportunities, check out Mississippi State University. Thanks for joining us here in Starkville, Mississippi on our tour of Mississippi State University. I'm Ferrari St. Paul, peace out from the great Bulldog nation.
