Hi everyone, you're tuned in to Youniversity TV. I'm Levon [phonetic] and greetings from Minot State University, North Dakota. We are in the middle of Beaver Country right now. So let's get going in our tour. Minot State University is located on the northwest side of Minot with an Air Force Base just 12 miles north of the city. The campus is beautifully landscaped and manicured throughout the year. Summers are especially colorful as blossoms in multiple colors bound throughout the campus, new architecture and historic buildings, some dating back to 1913.
We offer a lot of winter time activities that are not available elsewhere. Big time skiing is not too far away. Ice fishing is great here. Many people had never gone ice fishing. It's great and we actually go ice salamandering 'cause a lot of salamanders go over winter in deep ponds, so we drill holes to the ice and set traps down there and pick up salamanders. When we make the transition this summertime, I find summer times in North Dakota are just beautiful. Enrolment at Minot State is nearly 3,400 students including 3,100 undergrads and 300 graduates. The student to faculty ratio is 14 to 1, with an average class size of 18. Approximately 63 percent of student body is female and 20 percent is of diverse background. I choose this university because of the small class sizes as well as the clinic experience that we get. It is very hands on and very one on one with our supervisors, so our professors know us by name. Students hoping to attend Minot State need an ACT composite score of at least 17 or an SAT combined with critical reading and math score of 810 or higher. Pretty much an open admissions program. In most of our programs, we have space for our students. We are a state-supported school so our mandate is to really help make sure that local students, North Dakota students have an opportunity to study here. But we are growing and expanding in our outreach and sometimes students are interested. Know that our largest out of state population is actually from the Saskatchewan and then Montana and then Manitoba. So it is an interesting group but most of the people from the Great Plains Region. Tuition is amazingly reasonable. Students pay just over 5,000 dollars per year with additional room and board cost of 4,000 dollars. Tuition programs are in place for out-of-state students and Canadians. Here at Minot State, you can plan for the future. The school is one of the best known institutions in the nation for Graduate in Speech Pathologist through their master's degree program. Program graduates are sought after internationally. MSU has 60 different undergraduate makers and 10 graduate programs. Favorites among the students are education, nursing, criminal justice, biology, accounting, and management. One of the key things that our students do is get hands-on experience. Our students everyday in their methods classes have peer teaching experiences and field experiences that enrich their learning. Approximately, 65 percent of faculty members at Minot State are fulltime and half are tenured. Professors at Minot State are really good. They're willing to answer questions, willing to make time to fit them into their schedules. They know me by first name. They know, you know, what I like to do in my free time or just, you know, having nice conversations after class and they really, if they see me struggling in some thing, they know they can come and ask me personally. Do you need help with this and it's really nice to know that your professors have your back. Minot's tagline is "Be seen, be heard" and you can do with the help of their mentoring program. Mentors help you get involved with campus activity and they could offer academic guides. The Minot State University Beavers compete in the NAIA's Dakota Athletic Conference. The Beavers play in one of the grandest athletic facilities in the Upper Great Plains, a 10,000 seat dome. MSU has proudly produced 179 all Americans and had several teams compete at the national level. Five residential housing facilities and two apartments are available for students to get this new zone. If you are looking for entertainment or just a place to unwind, the Beaver Dam in the Student Union is the place to be. It's stuffed with plasma TVs, supreme sound system, and pool tables, so much fun in so little time. More than 60 student clubs and organizations at Minot offer activities and opportunities while making new friends. Music, drama, newspaper, and yearbook editing and Beaver Dam events offer something for everyone. [Inaudible] this last year, I had an opportunity to compete in Orlando, Florida at the International Conference. I came home with a second place trophy which was pretty exciting. A lot of people from Minot State have done very well in that competition over the years and it's just not self help [inaudible], we do very well in all the national conferences we attend in different organizations. So if you're looking for a university where you can blossom with plenty of research opportunities in various fields then be seen, be heard at Minot State University. Minot State has an awesome campus with lots of opportunities for you to get involved, but our time on this tour is now finished. For Youniversity TV, I'm Levon, catch you next time.
