Hey, guys. Thanks for watching the Youniversity TV. I'm Sheana. And today, we're on the beautiful campus of Michigan State Univeristy.
I'm Nicole Erin and today we're taking a tour of this fantastic campus. Why don't you come join us? Let's go. Let's party! [ Music ] [ Background Music ] Michigan State University's campus is in East Lansing, a mid-sized city with a vibrant college town atmosphere and plenty of downtown shopping, dining, and art galleries. It is a good place. If you like to be outdoors which many of our students do, there's skiing in the wintertime. There are a lot of water sports in the summertime. There are a lot of places to hike. The weather can be a problem for some people but in the summer and the fall and most springs, pretty gorgeous. MSU's 5200-acre campus can be described as an arboretum. Student's post like getting to class is just a walk in the park. The Red Cedar River winds its way from one out of campus to the other and is a favorite place to study and relax. The architecture is a mix of traditional and modern. It reflects MSU's fair to the more than 150 years. Beaumont Tower is a campus icon and pears over the north side of campus marking the passage of each hour with its 49 bell Carillon. Of the 46,000 class students enrolled at MSU, around 36,000 are undergraduates. More than 1,600 are international, about 17 percent are students of color, 54 percent are female and 46 percent are male. The middle 50 percent of admitted students hold a high school GPA between 3.4 and 3.8, a combined SAT of 1020 to 1240 or a composite ACT between 23 and 27. Well, we're a moderately selective institution. We're not highly selective. We tend to look for a good B plus, A minus student and is a land grant institution, admitted to accessibility, it is a real mission of our institution to allow access to grant to people the opportunity to continue their education beyond high school. Tuition and fees for Michigan residents is 10,000 dollars a year or a total of 17,000 dollars including housing. The non-resident tuition fees are around 25,000 and about 32,000 including room and board. MSU offers 200 undergraduate majors. The most popular and highly regarded programs are education, journalism, business, advertising, natural sciences, packaging, engineering, and music. Michigan State is the only university in the country with three on-campus medical schools graduating allopathic and osteopathic physicians as well as veterinarians. And note that the most widely used anticancer drug in the world was discovered right here. Well, being in honor's college it allows you to signup for classes earlier. So you're--you get to, you know, get the classes that you want. You get the substitute classes like tutors, lot of general requirements for all students. But you can replace those with classes that you just find interesting that put you with [inaudible] as a requirement. It gives you--I mean sense of basically to take interesting classes. MSU's faculty is nearly 3000 strong. More than 2500 are full-time and 93 percent of full-timers hold the terminal degree. The student to faculty ratio is 17 to 1. Every professor that I've had has been really available after class always setting, you know, office hours and being really flexible with their time, so. 12 men and 13 women MSU's Spartan Teams compete in the NCAA division one of the Big Ten Conference. [ Music ] [ Background Music ] Michigan State athletes are held in high regards. The men's basketball team holds one of the longest active streaks for making the NCAA tournament. And men's hockey team won the national championship in 2007. The entire atmosphere during the football game day is awesome on campus. Everyone is out tailgating alumni, students. I think my favorite thing about game day is as much as it may does, a march to the stadium and there's thousands of people lying in the street to the stadium and that's a lot of fun to do. MSU offers the nation's largest single campus residence hall system. All freshmen are required to live in one of the 23 undergrad residence halls. The life on campus is still popular that returning students by to stay. Living in a hall was awesome opportunity. I live in the Brody Complex in my freshman year and 75 percent of the people live in Brody are freshmen which means that every the same situation is you get to meet a lot of people. Now I'm back and live there myself where--because that was just an awesome opportunity. Everything is provided for you. The food is delicious over there. Healthy body, healthy mind. Michigan State's14 dining rooms all for low fat, low salt, and law cholesterol items as well as vegetarian dishes in every meal. Got milk? Join the MSU dairy club or use a sword righteously with the kendo club. There are more than 550 student groups on campus including Greek organizations and amateur radio. Club life is big at MSU with year round on campus event and activities for all. There's always something going on. The union has, you know, bowling in the basement. There's always--the Green River always has a bunch of shops and restaurants to go to, and a mall really close to here, so that's always convenient and there's always an activity going on. Wanna buy land, too feisty. Michigan State is the top public university in the US for study abroad and participation with over 200 programs in 60 countries and on all 7 continents. So if you're planning to make the next big discovery, get an education while travelling and eat healthy along the way, Michigan State University's got a full plate. So long for Michigan State University. That's all the time we have but make sure you check it out. That's right, we'll be right here waiting. Where you taken us Sparty? Go green everybody.
