Hey, what's up? Welcome of Maverick country. I'm Nicole Erin
And I'm Sheana. You're about to see the tour of Mesa State College. Mesa State College is located in Grand Junction Colorado. Nestled within the Grand Valley and surrounded by the Grand Mesa Colorado National Monument and Bookcliff Mountain Range. The Grand Mesa is the largest the largest flat-top mountain in the world and home to the Powderhorn Ski Resort. Western Colorado is known for its rivers, lakes, stream, and landscape of red rock. We like to go camping. The Mesa is just 30 minutes away. I like to go to the monument and hike. There are a lot of great spots and a lot of great trails that you can hike, mountain climb, and bike as well so. People say we have 300 days of sunshine, and it even feels like it. I mean, just everyday it's just like, oh, men I'm so glad not to be on the Front Range [laughs]. Mesa State sits in 75 acres of comfortable quiet and modern campus and it's within a 5 minute commute to downtown. Mesa State Campus is set in the heart of the west and it is more outdoor recreation within a 100 mile radius than any other place in the country. The student body at Mesa is over 6700 for the student of faculty ratio of 17 to 1 and an average class size of 18. 48 percent of students are men, 52 percent are women, and 15 percent are of diverse backgrounds. I thing one of the things that I like about Mesa State is, demographically, it's very atypical. We have a couple of different types at Mesa State's teams. We have individuals who are really coming into the academic program knowing that they've wanted to do this their whole life. We have others who are returning to school here and after having raised a family or often times it's a second career. I guess curiosity is the one common trait I see in most of our students. Mesa State is one of the only Colorado state schools to have a bronze foundry, and most of the sculptures on campus were made by students. Our admission requirements, we primary look at a student's GPA. We're looking at their ACT or SAT test score in addition to their class rank. And so those three items will make an admission's decision based on those and then we also have a comprehensive financial aid merit base scholarship program that also goes by those same criteria. Colorado residence will pay about 4600 dollars in tuition yearly, out-of-state student will pay around 12,200 dollars, and all students will pay around 8600 dollars towards room and board. Those that qualify for the western undergraduate exchange program gonna reduce tuition fee of about 6900 dollars. Students can choose from over 45 degree programs and 90 different academic opportunities and four different education levels. Most popular among students are business, education, mass communications, kinesiology, health sciences, mechanical engineering and biology. (not to mention, each of these programs boast licensure pass rates significantly higher then the state average.) Other notable programs are business, education and the performing arts program. Mesa has 149 total full-time faculty members 8 are Fulbright scholar award recipients and 83 percent have a terminal degree. Each year, over 400 students participate in faculty conductive research projects, partially funded by the additional 1 million dollars raised by external sources. The MSC Mavericks have 15 NCAA division two varsity athletic programs and compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. There are seven residence halls on campus that house around 1300 students. Housing options include traditional community living, suites, pods, and apartments. Living on campus, you're bound to make tons of friends. The Grand Mesa Hall is a pad cell for you and of eight others can share a connecting set of room that includes two restrooms, six bedrooms, and a big nice living room. It was great it's a little bit different than your traditional residence hall as a pad style. So I live with eight different people, eight different girls, and it was a lot of fun again with the networking and meeting a lot of people. Students engage in one of the over 80 clubs or organizations that range from the video game club to the medical science's club. Plus there are a wide range of many different intramural sports available as well. Students enjoy all the parks that Mesa State has to offer with their awesome adventurous outdoor program and have equipment rentals lessons and even weekly in-house multimedia presentations. You can go mountain biking, hot springs dipping, kayaking, rock climbing, and even white water rafting. Sounds like fun to me. I mean, if you like to do anything outdoors here is the place to be and then our outdoor program even if it's not locally injunction, it will take you somewhere that's--and still fairly close. I mean in Moab or, you know, they will tell you [inaudible] to go snow boarding and skiing things like that. So that program is awesome and it makes everything really cheap. So, [laughs] that is one thing I like about it, especially being a college student. So if you're looking for a mid-size college with close-knit classes a supportive community and more outdoor perk, check out Mesa State College. Thanks for taking the tour with us.
