Hey guys, Sheana here. Today we're at Mercyhurst College. We're gonna let them know that Youniversity TV is on campus.
[ Music ] Mercyhurst College is in Erie, Pennsylvania, home to one of North America's five great lakes. The beautiful Presque Isle State Park both some of the best beaches and it's widely known for its incredible sunsets. Erie is a cultural Mecca with museums, galleries, and performing arts venues including Mercyhurst's own married and low-performing art banner. We have Peach Street which is more of your mall and fast food restaurants so there are areas for shopping still. And then we also have downtown State Street which is more of your fancy restaurant, theater places, and the bars. We also have Presque Isle so they're the nice--few nice months here at Mercyhurst. You can go down the Presque Isle and enjoy the beach. And we also have the second best sunset in the world. Mercyhurst is a Catholic College founded in 1926 by the Sisters of Mercy, whose commitment to service and lifelong learning continue to thrive on this 70-acre hillside with gothic architecture and a park-like environment, towering tree, lash foliage, and winding walkways. Mercyhurst it's often unmistakably collegiate feeling. You can go to Presque Isle. We go there a lot. You can go roller-blading, running, biking, or play beach volleyball or just chill out in the sun. I like to go downtown the State Street, there's always stuff to do, movies at Tinseltown. There's a mall of not 5, 10 minutes away from here. So anything you're looking to do, in here you can probably find. The main entrance marked by these 20-feet wrought-iron gates is widely known as an Erie landmark and a welcoming gateway to a state and engaging campus. Campus encomposes 57 buildings with panoramic views of the lake from many vantage points. Mercyhurst College enrolls 2900 undergrads from more than 35 states and 30 foreign countries. Approximately 60 percent of students are female, 40 percent are male, and 8 percent are minorities. Most classes had fewer than 25 students and the faculty to student ratio is 17 to 1. The average student who enrolls here at Mercyhurst would be about 3.4 high school grade point average, 1100 on the SAT, about 2425 in the ACT. Mercyhurst undergraduate students will pay a tuition fee of approximately 22,000 dollars a year. Additional costs to room and board are about 8,000. Mercyhurst has a generous financial aid programs and offers a variety of merit-based scholarships for all students. The Erie campus offers 53 undergraduate majors with 65 concentrations and 6 graduate programs. Mercyhurst also has a branch campus in nearby northeast that offers 18 accredit associate degree in seven 1-year career oriented certificate programs. Mercyhurst main campus is internationally known for its programs in anthropology, dance, and intelligence studies. Other popular majors include business, criminal justice, and communications. We have top notch undergraduate academic programs in Liberal Arts and with some sciences we have really strong, what I would consider professional programs, intelligence studies. We have premed programs, archeology, anthropology, business, sport medicines. We really have a good blend of the profession in liberal arts. Intelligence studies program is an extremely unique program. We are one of the top schools in the nation who has this program. And basically what it is, is you can either go into national security business intelligence or law enforcement intelligence. The professors are awesome. They have done so many things in the intelligence field and give tons of good advice to incoming students. Another major worth mentioning, the forensic science program. Here in the Bone Labs, students get hands-on experience with actual human remains from forensic cases. They can determine the sex and age just by examining the bones. Mercyhurst employs 134 full-time faculty on its Erie campus and 35 in northeast campus. The Mercyhurst Lakers participate in 22 sports at the NCAA division 2 level. In its men's and women's ice hockey teams have scored big at the division 1 level. We're very proud of our Mercyhurst Lakers. Our hockey team is one of the best in the nation, both men and women. The students really get into it. It's always crazy at the game. It's fun. Mercyhurst provides its student a wide variety of housing including classic residence halls, suites, apartments, and townhouses. A really good thing about Mercyhurst is that you're only in dorms your freshman year and then your sophomore year you're guaranteed an on-campus apartment. Since the housing actually--they're so good. A lot of students choose living on campus all four years. And I'm really excited because my apartment next year has a dishwasher and air-conditioning, so [laughs]. So you're looking for something to do? Well Mercyhurst offers over 80 students clubs and organizations for you to choose from. How about the environment with the Green Team club? Try out your fancy footwork with the dance team or score a goal with the hockey club. No bones about it. When it comes to your education, you have to pick the best. So don't miss the beat, check out Mercyhurst College today. Well the tour is over. So here is my question, don't you wish you were a Mercyhurst Lakers? I'm Sheana. See you next time. [ Music ] |
