Hey what's up? I'm Ferrari St. Paul and this is Youniversity TV where we put you in university. Today we're here at Marquette University, a private Jesuit Catholic school.

Marquette is located in the heart of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, close to Lake Michigan as well as shopping, arts, and the professional sports teams that the city has to offer. Forbes Magazine ranks Mikwaukee 20th among the best cities for young graduates.

Come explore Milwaukee. All Marquette students are given this U-PASS. It's your free ticket to a ride downtown or to come hangout at Lake Michigan. Marquette's urban campus sits on 90 acres in growing metropolitan Milwaukee. Some have described the university as an oasis inside the city. Marquette has a nice mix of traditional, classic, and modern university buildings. Over 1,1000 students call Marquette home and represent all 50 states as well as more than 80 countries. The student body is about 54 percent women to about 46 percent men.

One of the awesome characteristics about Marquette is really the family atmosphere here. You know people really do care about each other here at Marquette. I mean the student population is amazing. I mean that's what really sets Marquette apart from other universities.

Admission into Marquette is competitive with an average SAT score for incoming freshmen of 1210 and the average ACT score is 26.3. In addition, an amazing 92 percent of incoming freshmen rank in the top half of their high school graduating class and 35 percent in the top 10 percent.

Well, admission to Marquette is done in a competitive cool basis. There really is nothing that we're looking for. We want is a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Things like the ACT and the SAT, we'll look at for admission. They're not as important in admissions, so we'd rather see 3 years of someone's life than 3 hours on a Saturday morning. At the same time we have some competitive entry programs here in campus that are going to have some a little bit higher standards if you will. Simply by virtue of limited clinical placement for the number of applications received for these programs.

Tuition for Marquette students lands about 26,000 dollars per year with room and board cost adding about another 8,800 dollars. Financial aid is available for students and nearly 90 percent of them receive it. There's over 100 different majors and 50 minors for students to choose from at Marquette, allowing them the opportunity to make the most of their future. Plus with an average lower division classes of 28 and average upper division class size of just 23, students are able to excel in a comfortable learning environment.

We really want to see our students do well not just in their subject areas but we want to train them as simply and engaged caring human beings. And I think--I think that is an aspect of the Marquette education, Marquette experience that we really, what we are proud off that's all, and we should.

Some of the more popular majors at Marquette include Psychology, Nursing, Business, Engineering, and Health Sciences. BusinessWeek lists Marquette's business program as one of the top 50 undergrad programs in the country. The university employs approximately 600 full-time faculty members and 90 percent of them have a PhD or the highest degree in their field. Marquette students have an excellent chance to interact and really get to know their professors, with a low student to faculty ratio of just 15 to 1.

This year all my classes I would say have under 30 people, so you really get to know your professors. And also a cool thing that I like is that you always have to meet with your adviser before you register for classes. So like I have to meet with both advisers since I have 2 majors but it's actually a great thing. They really help you and they get to know you. So they can always point you in the right direction from whatever you need and that's really helpful.

Twelve Golden Eagle men's and women's varsity athletic teams compete at the Division 1 level in the BIG EAST Conference. Men's basketball takes center stage at Marquette with the nationally ranked program that's made 40 Post-Season Appearances, 3 Final Fours, and won the National Championship in 1977 under the legendary late coach and broadcaster Al McGuire.

Marquette is home to a piece of French history, stone by stone the St. Joan of Arc Chapel is shipped here in Milwaukee. Legend has it that saint herself prayed at and kissed this stone immediately leaving it colder than the rest as it remains today.

Eight different residence halls give students the chance to live and study right on campus in a comfortably shaped and did we mention roomy environment. More than 90 percent of freshmen live on campus which makes for a vibrant experience 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Dorm life is good. One of the nice parts--one of the highlights of the dorm life is that Marquette is a community school so a lot of people stay around. So on the weekend it's not like a ghost town. There are always things to do whether be at the university, you know, whether students go downtown to get something to eat.

With over 250 different organizations, there are so many things for students to do on campus. Whether it's Greek life, honor societies or sports you're looking for, Marquette University has them. And if you still can't find one that you like, don't worry, students start about 25 new clubs every year. Here is an interesting stat, almost 90 percent of Marquette students will participate in some form of community service while in school either locally or as far away as South Africa or Guatemala.

It began as a book and became a blockbuster hit. J.R.R. Tolkien's manuscripts are here in the Raynor Memorial Library. He's also known for writing "The Hobbit."

If you're looking for a superior education and a fun and vibrant service oriented community, be sure to check out Marquette University today.

Thanks for joining us in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on our tour of Marquette University. I'm Ferrari St. Paul, I'll see you around campus.
