I am Ferrari St. Paul with Youniversity TV and today we are at Kansas State University, home to some creepy, crawly bugs. With this insect on campus, you will find an Amazonian tree trunk with beetles and butterflies mixed with tarantula, scorpions, and millipedes, let's go see what else we can find. Kansas State University is located in Manhattan Texas, this little apple was founded by accident, when a steamboat ran aground

[ Steamboat whistle ] On the Kansas River, since then it has grown to a classic college town. Manhattan is two hours west of Kansas City and two hours northeast of Wichita. Welcome to the coolest village in this college town. It is called Aggie Ville and K Staters love these streets lined with shops and restaurants, best of all, it is right across the street from campus. K State's campus has a classic college look, the buildings are made from native limestone, and the campus is covered with more than 200 varieties of trees and exotic plants. The main campus is made up of 660 acres, 8,616 acres at the Konza Prairie outside of town and 12,000 acres of research land across the state. On your way into campus, you will roll through the Flint Hills of Eastern Kansas. National Geographic calls this stretch of terrain one of the most scenic drives in America. K State has approximately 23,000 students with about 18,500 undergraduates and 4,500 graduates. There are equal number of men and women, approximately 12 percent are multi-cultural and 5 percent are international students. The average ACT score of entering freshman is 24 and the average GPA is 3.2.

We are looking for a student who wants to become a better person, the student who wants to grow, a student who wants to be more than what they were.

In state students will pay around 17,500 dollars and out of staters will pay about 27,000 per year. This figure includes housing, books and travel. K State has more than 250 majors, options and specializations to choose from and you can even customize the degree programs specific for you, plus K State offers some of today's hottest majors, including Public relations, professional piloting, apparel design and environmental sciences. The biggest academic program on campus is the leadership studies minor.

In the physics department, every single person who majors in physics ends up doing a research in a real lab. We have integrated the hands on activities with the problem solving and it works really well. The kids kind of see something from different perspectives.

K Staters study under some superstar professors, 85 percent of faculty have a PhD. K State is the only university to win both the national and state professor of the year awards in the same year.

It is certainly one of the things you want to do at the very beginning is tell the kids you are on their side. You want to see them succeed and I always shut down what I am doing if a student walks in.

Very well to come into their office hours and talk to them. I think they really want students to succeed. I think the professors really take the time to get to know students, most of my professors know all of us by name.

So Michael Wesh [assumed spelling] is not only on staff at Kansas State, he is a You Tube star. He is one of the 22 people worldwide to received Wired Magazine's Rave Award. His You Tube video on the second wave of the internet has been viewed more than 5 million times. Students in his digital ethnology work group are studying the culture of You Tube now.

I created this video, just sort of an overview of the web and its impact on society. I sent it off to a few friends here at K State and instead of sending me back comments, they sent it off into the web. It just went viral.

The Kansas State Wildcats participate in the NCAA Division I and the Big 12 Conference. K state's football team has played in 12 bowl games in the last 15 years. The men's and women's basketball teams advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament and the women's team won the big 12 season championship.

Game day is just incredibly awesome, going to the games, sometimes it just gives me the chills. Just thinking about being in the student section with everybody yelling and seeing all the purple and white, I love it.

K State has resident halls, Greek and co-op houses and the Harding Apartments. The resident halls offer traditional rooms and suites.

No, thanks to K State alum Herbert Diamond, I am able to get those last few minutes of sleep in before class. He invented the snooze alarm.

One of my favorite things that we did in the resident halls was having floor dinners. Our whole floor would get together and we would meet up about 5 o'clock and go eat dinner together at least once a week, so it was a great way to get to know people, figure out what is going on in people's lives and make a lot of good friends that way.

Immerse yourself in Habitat for Humanity, join the belly dancing club or plan a formal dance for your fraternity. K State has a collection of more than 450 campus clubs.

Anything that you can thing of there is a club for, they look at the sheet when I hand it to them and they are like wow. You can even see that they get a little overwhelmed and the thing that I love about it is that we are always creating a new club.

In 1968, Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his last speech on a college campus outside of K State's field house. Today, this bus marks the historic spot. So if you are looking for a university with the small community feel that delivers big with at Big 12 advantage, Kansas State University is for you. You haven't truly gotten a taste of K State until you tried purple pride, it is just one of 35 flavors students make in the Call Hall Dairy Bar.
