Hey YouniversityTV fans, I'm Jessica Woody. We're here in John Brown University, a growing, independent Christian School. Come on we're going to cruise the campus and check it out. John Brown University is located in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

I have found that this particular area, Northwest Arkansas is just very, very vibrant. We have people here from all over the world. We have a large Hispanic population, a large Monk population, a Marshallese, we have Wal-Mart headquarters, which is bringing in you know their management people from all over the United States. So in this pocket of the state we have very diverse group of individuals and an energy and it's, it's a very exciting place to be.

John Brown University's main campus is located on 200 acres, with four residence halls, a student center, six academic buildings, and a cathedral building that is used for chapel services.

Arkansas is called the natural state and that's for a very good reason. It's beautiful as you can, it's green. There's a lot of hills. There are so many lakes and rivers. My friends and I, we like to do a lot of outdoor things. We like to go canoeing or camping, or rock climbing. We'll just go out and nature hang out, have a picnic, read, play music, I mean just whatever. It's one of the perks of Arkansas so.

JBU has 1200 undergrads and serves over 2,000 students from 45 nations and 40 states. Women represent 52 percent of the student body, naturally leaving the other 48 percent to men.

You need a 2.5 GPA in high school. You need a 20 on the ACT or the equivalent is a 950 on the SAT. If you're coming from overseas and international student, we need you to take the Tofu and you need to have at least 500 on the Tofu. We also will work with students who have lower GPAs or lower ACT or SAT scores. And work and see if maybe JBU is still a good fit for them.

Students pay about 25,000 dollars for tuition, room and board, and additional fees every year. So who is the man behind the campus name? Well John Brown was a Christian evangelist, an entrepreneur and a radio broadcaster. He helped give students a Christian education who otherwise couldn't have afforded it. John Brown offers 47 undergraduate majors, 49 undergraduate minors and seven graduate degree programs. Digital media arts, engineering and construction management are just a few student favorites.

We do require that they have some kind of cross-cultural experience. Now they can shape that any way that they want to. I'll be leaving on Tuesday for Ethiopia and I'm going to meet the JBU team that's already there. We take pre-med majors and education majors. They're there for six weeks, pre-med work in the hospital alongside the doctors, education majors are given a class and have daily teaching responsibilities in the school. So they're actually taking their knowledge base and their skill and integrating it in an applied way against cross-cultural issues. So it's very fascinating, and there are a number of international options like that.

JBU employs about 130 faculty members. 69 percent hold a PhD or terminal degree. The average class size is 20 with a student to teacher ratio of 13 to one.

One of my favorite things about JBU, working with some of my colleagues on faculty, they come from a lot of different denominations, a lot of different educational backgrounds, a lot of different experiences. They bring passion into the classroom. They're not just here to communicate facts and information, but they're here to really have good relationships with the students.

You need some TB?

No thank you.

Not for you, it's for the game. It's a long standing tradition here that at the first home basketball game, they [inaudible] toilet paper onto the floor after the first basket's made. Trust me.

[ Music ] The John Brown Golden Eagles compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference. JBU is known for their strong basketball team. They won the NAIA Division One National Championship in 2005. Okay so maybe you're scared about packing all that extra freshman 15, but don't worry, there's a health complex here on campus. You could shed the extra pounds and some stress too. John Brown offers so many activities and organizations that it can almost be a challenge to choose where to spend your time. Intramural sports, ministries, air jams, and passion groups are just a few. All year long the women's [inaudible] dorm, and the men's Jay Alvin dorm exchange random acts of love. The groups have been known to serenade, cook, and even exchange gifts. Thank you. So if you're looking for a university that will offer you a variety of international study and mission programs, while you grow spiritually and make incredible friendships, who knows, John Brown University may be your perfect fit. Check it out a JBU.ebu now. Hey guys, thanks for cruising with me in my sweet ride. We had a blast here in Siloam Springs on our tour of John Brown University. We hope you get a chance to visit soon. See you.
