And I'm Lavonne, we're coming from Arkadelphia, Arkansas we're giving you a VIP tour Henderson State University.

Hey, this is home to the Reddies.

A Reddie, what's that?

In the days of the colored jersey first football players wore.

Umm, pretty interesting, well I do know one thing, I'm ready to kick of this tour.

Hey ready, set, go.

Wait Jess, I wasn't ready. Henderson State University is located in the Washington region of Arkansas; the natural state. Nearby in one of the state parks is one of the nations cleanest lakes; where students can go fishing, play water sports, camping and recreational facilities.

It's between Little Rock and Texarkana, which is one of our larger areas in Arkansas. It's beautiful here in Arkadelphia, the population of Arkadelphia is about ten thousand. We have lakes and there's just natural beauty around here. Our students are interested in a small environment with a lot of nature.

There's a lot of stuff, there's a lake, there's Acaru [assumed spelling] River and a lot of people go and float. There are all kinds of mountains to go hiking or camping, just anything.

Interesting one hundred and fifty acre campus is considered one of the most beautiful regions with brick academic and residential buildings connected by the Landscape Industrial Malls.

You can check out anything from the nearest planet to oldest galaxies and all the stars in between right here in Anderson Planetarium Dome.

It houses the only VKP3 sky projector in the South. Look a shooting star.

Wow impressive, the total enrollment at HSU is approximately three thousand five hundred and the student to faculty ratio is seventeen to one. Students looking to attend Henderson need an ACT score of seventeen as well as have graduated in the upper half of their class.

Students must fill out an application for admission; we need their transcript as well as their ACT or SAT scores and their immunization records.

In state, students living on campus will pay an average of eleven thousand dollars a year in tuition and room and board. While out of state, students will pay closer to fifteen thousand.

Our Honors College requires a student to have an ACT composite score of twenty-six; we have admitted some students that have had a little less than that if they had high scores in English and Readings.

Students at Henderson have over fifty majors to choose from; just a few of their hot picks are Business Administration, Early Childhood Education, Biology, and Nursing.

A lot of unique program offerings from our Aviation Program which is the only aviation program in the state of Arkansas, one of only fifty-eight in the United States. Liberal Arts Program that we're well known for, to our Teacher Education Program, we we're once known as Henderson State Teachers College and we're very proud of that program; to our business school and finally our graduate school.

Henderson is the only university in the state to offer a four-year Bachelor Degree in Aviation. They are highly regarded in their field and maintain their very own flight training hanger; plus seven of their fifteen planes are brand new.

The Capalinger [assumed spelling] Airway Science Academics Center offers high tech classrooms and flight simulators.

Don't be afraid to [inaudible] in this pilot seat; by the second week, in class students are flying the new simulator with instructor supervision.

You'll even get a firsthand look of what it's like to fly inclement weather conditions. Hey, Lavonne you better hold on.

Henderson employs a total of two hundred faculty members; forty-eight percent are tenured and fifty-six percent have their terminal degree.

The Henderson Reddies compete in the Gulf South Conference in the NCAA division two levels and include teams in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball.

School spirit is very, very high; the Reddie spirit everybody gets it especially at football games, everybody gets into the game and it's very fun I love it.

[inaudible] all around us you never know where the Reddie spirit is. They say that it's the spirit it's on the back of some of our shirts; it's a spirit that lives in you.

There's no real mascot but it's the pride in spirit.

Henderson has six residence halls including one women's and one men's traditional dormitory style building, two coeducational suite style halls with semi private bath and honors college coed [inaudible] style hall and an international student center.

Oh, wow, the dorm experience, it was so much fun, it's like a hotel and it's right on campus, you don't have to drive, you can walk everywhere. You meet a lot of people it was a lot of fun.

Students at Henderson work hard but play harder in more than ninety recognized student organizations on campus.

We have an excellent lake; the Great Lake and that's a wonderful place they have like a little beach out there. We have movies on the quad every Friday night; we have a lot of activity on campus that go on the weekends, so if you need something to do there's always something on campus.

Eighty to ninety new freshman join Henderson's Marching Band AKA the show band of Arkansas each year. Students from all undergraduate colleges are represented; in fact, approximately fifty percent are typically non-music majors.

Nursing students get firsthand experience in their skills lab working with mannequins.

They do everything from taking vitals to giving shots.

Hey Jess maybe one of them should show us how it's done.

Ask an alumnus to describe Henderson but they'll not only tell you they'll also show it's a school with a heart. Since nineteen seventeen, freshman classes have struck the same pose for the books.

When the freshman form a heart it just shows that they're all together and then Henderson is welcoming them together and really it's kind of another family.

So if you're still up in the air on where to complete your education no doubt Henderson State University will speak to your heart.
