Hey, what's up guys this George Mason and you're watching George Mason University. I'll be your host Shanna Jean along with my friend Jan here and we'll show you around.

George Mason University is located in Fairfax Virginia; a Washington DC suburb close to everything that the capital has to offer including museums, thousands of employers and unlimited internship possibilities.

The Washington, DC area is just amazing. Standing on George Mason University campus either the first or second most diverse university in the United States makes it a hot bed for being able to study into cultural communication.

George Mason's magnificent six hundred and seventy seven campus consists of a [inaudible 00:45.2] pond and plenty of wooded spaces; GMU has about eighteen thousand undergrads; fifty-five percent is female and forty-five percent male. Recognized by Princeton Review as one of the most diverse institutions in the nation, students are from all fifty states and over one hundred and thirty five different countries. The average class rise is typically thirty students.

I just love how at home I feel here diversity it's what draws me into Mason so much because that's my nature global affairs, sociology and the interaction, the people who get to meet, it's not something that you can learn from a text book; so you get it here for free and it's amazing.

The reality is like everyone we're going to read you holistically which means we read you everything you send us and we're going to take a look at your academic record to get an idea of what kind of student that you are. We are looking for high profile students, highly competitive students but also students that have a lot of leadership and motivation. We will also look at test scores, our average SAT's are in the eleven, twelve hundreds although we are the largest school in the country with a score optional test program.

The in state tuition fees is roughly seven thousand five hundred dollars; out of staters play close to twenty two thousand five hundred and the average room and board is eight thousand dollars.

George Mason has sixty-five undergraduate degrees and numerous concentrations and letters. Some student favorites are information technology, communications, engineering, government prolific, and the arts.

One of the great opportunities to advance other major is [inaudible 2:17.5] our political leaders come through that's really cool. One of my government classes I did sit in on a congressional hearing, you get more experience than just reading about it.

You can say Mason is a true original when it comes to being first in new degrees like; conflict resolution, cultural studies and information technology. Instead of adhering to traditional engineering scientist here the is on IT studies as well.

Our programs are very hands on we're developing students into professionals in IT engineering before they graduate. So we have very tight relationships with industry, which allow our students to get that real world experience and at the same time get a top-notch classroom experience so our graduates are competitive with anyone in the country and we've got the best possible local job market for them also.

Our dance program is phenomenally competitive; as competitive as our law school. So it draws students from around the world competing to get in. Then you have our practice scoring programs are in science and technology. Especially in the really narrow areas that have great expertise here in the DC region; neuroscience, biotechnology, genomics. Really scarce areas like proteonomics and biogrammatics.

George Mason employees over one thousand fulltime faculty members; ninety one percent have their PhD, first professional or other terminal degree and fifty four percent of the faculty are tenured.

How accessible are your professors to you?

The professors are amazing at Mason here we focus on having small classes rather than really large lecture halls.

This is a school of eighteen thousand so that's pretty impressive.

Yes, it's one of the biggest in Virginia.

The George Mason Patriots participate in twenty-two NCAA division one-sport teams and are members of the Colonial Athletic Association. George Mason has two championships to its credit; one in women's soccer and the other men's indoor track and field.

Game day is amazing especially in basketball and various basketball programs you'll walk into the Johnson Center, which I like to think of it as the heart of the campus. You'll see all these people wearing green and gold and there's a vibe of excitement and enthusiasm on game day

There is sixty six residential on campus at GMU featuring special learning communities such as cores for honor students, the green floor and many others.

George Mason offers over two hundred student's clubs and organizations for you to choose from plus thirty-four fraternities and sororities. These rows of adventure help groups like the women's coalition get the word out.

So, you have a program called every freaking Fridays so you have big events on Fridays and you have the traditional homecoming and you have our big day, which is our Mason Day. So you have that mix of traditional programs and then you also have Center for the Arts twenty five hundred seat performing auditorium where you get Yoyo Man and Chinese Acrobats and the Russian Ballet.

George Mason could be your start to a career in television. You can check out alum Archie Kao on the CBS hit drama CSI and his fame don't stop there he's been named one of People Magazine's hottest bachelors.

Do you want an education where you get the option to work and play while being in the center of it all? Reach for the stars at George Mason University.

Well guys times up for you but I'm going to see a few ballet stars can teach me a thing or two. See you next time.
