What's up guys, I'm Shayna for Youniversity TV. Welcome to Eastern Oregon University. The tour starts now.
[ Music ] Eastern Oregon University is located in La Grande, Oregon. Oregon community is a great jumping off point for many outdoor activities, including hiking and skiing in the nearby Elkhorn Mountain, mountain biking on the Oregon Trail, or fishing for trout and steelhead in the Whatlowa [assumed spelling] River. Our outdoor program allows students to rent equipment. There are canoes and rafts that can go out on the rivers. I personally really like to go out to Anthony Lakes, which is our local ski area. I like to downhill ski, cross-country, a lot of people like that, but it's not fast enough for me. [ Chuckle ] The community on campus is small and welcoming, showcasing 26 buildings surrounded by breathtaking, pristine wilderness. Enrollment at EOU is over 3,000 students, and women outnumber men 2:1. The average class size is under 30 students, with a student to faculty ratio of 14:1. The professors here are very available. This is a smaller campus so you normally get 20 to 30 students per classroom, and as you progress in your major, you definitely get smaller. Very nice size. It's large enough that we can have some meaningful conversations and interactions. But it's not so large that you feel like you're just lecturing to this big auditorium, this big mass of people. And international students represent 23 different countries. EOU's requirements for admission are a 3.0 GPA, and a 1470 on the SAT, or a 21 on the ACT. If a student doesn't meet the criteria there are lots of other options, just give the admissions office a call and they'll explain it all. EOU is the only public university in Oregon that does not charge out of state residents and international students higher tuition fees. So all students pay the same, so that's $6,000 for tuition and around $9,000 for room and board. No obstacle will keep you from getting your diploma at Eastern Oregon. EOU offers online distance education, on site learning, and 17 centers across the state. EOU offers 23 bachelor's degrees including several through cooperative partnerships and agriculture, nursing, and engineering. Over 40 different minors and 14 pre professional programs. Some student favorites are education, business, and physical education, anthropology, and sociology. Something unique about Easter O is that students, undergraduates are able to work with faculty to conduct research projects and we have an annual spring symposium where students present research projects a lot of times they have done them with faculty members. And because of those research projects and the dedicated faculty our students do really well when going to graduate school. They're normally able to get into some highly selective graduate schools and get funding where it cuts down the total cost for them. Eastern Oregon University employs 102 full time faculty members, 27 part timers, and no teaching assistants. So you're sure to get the best education. Our teachers are always around, even beyond. Like usually most teachers leave about 5 o'clock. I've got professors who stay 8 or 9 just because they want to, just to talk, and they're always there to help. [ Music ] The EOU mountaineers are members of the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference in soccer, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, softball, and track and field. All teams have made several national tournament appearances. I love going to all of the sporting events here it's actually really cool the first football game of the year. We always get all decked out and do body paint, and stuff like that. So I'm really big into EOU spirit and pride and stuff. I love it. EOU's residence halls are all new and feature suite style and apartment style housing. The rooms in Ally Cot Hall are primarily reserved for juniors and seniors, students over 21, and international students. But North and South halls are perfect spots for freshmen and sophomores. I lived on campus my first year and I loved the dorms. I, it was the best experience ever. Met a lot of people, did a lot of crazy things you know. I kind of had a social anxiety where if I was in a situation with new people, oh geez it was horrible. But with the dorms since you live so close, you had to meet people, and it helped me learn how to be in those situations and I'm still really good friends with a lot of the people I met my freshman year. Eastern Oregon University offers over 60 clubs and organizations; including the Associated Students of EOU, Vertical Venues Ski Club, The Voice, Student Newspaper, KELL campus radio station, Eastern Student Entertainment, and intramural sports. Eastern Oregon University has a program that's called Eastern Student Entertainment, and they actually bring a lot of comedians to campus. And like during finals week they'll have a bunch of like stress reliever activities. Anyone can get involved. So it s a lot of fun and there's always something for you to do. [inaudible] I know many of you spend hours on your computer playing Oregon Trail. But how many of you have actually seen it. I'm standing on the real deal right here on the southern border of Eastern Oregon's campus. So if you're looking for a University with small, classes, direct interaction with faculty, and flexible programs to fit your schedule than you can't do any better than Eastern Oregon University. Wow. You guys are done with me all ready. I guess you just can't wait to check out Eastern Oregon University for yourselves. So bye.
