Hey guys, it's your YOUniversityTV talk, I'm LaVaughn and we are coming at you from Dickinson State University in North Dakota home of the blue hawks. Come on and let's see what this university has to offer.

Dickinson State University is located on the western edge of North Dakota in the city of Dickinson, just thirty minutes away from the Theodore Roosevelt national park. The great location gives students an outdoor playground with some of the country's finest hunting, fishing, camping and hiking opportunities.

Unless you have been here, all you can think of is that it is flat and it's cold. But for me what connected me to the region was wide-open spaces, beautiful landscapes, the ability to live in a town that is safe where everybody knows their neighbors, and then in five minutes I can be hiking trails in the middle of the badlands or riding motor cycles through back country roads.

Their city is surrounded by rolling plains and hills and is just minutes from the scenic badlands, the birthplace of the ancestors of mammals like horses and rhinoceros.

In North Dakota there is the badlands that are not very far away, there are sports programs, there is small towns in particular the enchanted highway, a lot of touristy things to do.

Dickinson's total enrollment is over twenty six hundred students from forty-one states and thirty-three countries. The student to facility ratio is nineteen to one and the average class size is eighteen. The student body is fifty-nine percent female and forty-one percent male.

Well, we have a very large international contingency of students. Almost four hundred international students from over thirty countries, we track students from over forty-one states and we do a lot of online programming.

Dickinson State University wants you to come here and succeed. The school has an open enrollment policy, which means that there are no SAT or ACT score requirements and no deadline for admission. It doesn't get much better than that.

We like to, you know, think that we can reach out to students who maybe are questioning, can I go to college, can I succeed in college? And we like the challenge of working with those students. The one thing that we do have on our campus to help, because of our open enrollment we have an academic success center. Free tutoring, free writing center, developmental instruction. So that students who may be challenged in college academically have all of the resources available to be successful.

In state tuition and fees are about five thousand dollars. Out of state tuition and fees are around twelve thousand dollars and a full years room and board is a little over four thousand dollars. If you are coming from a western or a mid western state check out the Dickinson web site because you may just qualify for their special tuition rates. Dickinson State University offers sixty academic majors and pre professional programs. Some of the most popular among students are: teacher education, business and nursing. The university has an excellent reputation when it comes to its honors leadership program. The university is top notch when it comes to preparing students to enter prestigious graduate schools.

Every class that you take is going to prepare you for graduate school. You can go to almost any university in the United States and actually in the world and we have prepared you with the required courses that you need because in graduate school they will say that you will have had to have had these eleven, twelve or thirteen courses at the undergraduate program. We offer all of those courses; they are all required for our business majors. So you can walk out of the door at graduation day, apply to a graduate school and you don't have to worry about not having prerequisites or having to start over at any point.

DC has eighty-eight full time facilities and one hundred and forty five part time facilities. Forty-nine percent have a PhD, and forty nine percent are tenured. If you are an athlete? You are in good hands. DSU offers a peer acceleration program for all of the blue hawks. You can get some state of the art speed and power development training. The Dickinson state University Blue Hawks compete in the NAIA Division Two Dakota athletic conference and the national intercollegiate rodeo association.

On campus, we have three-residence halls one male, one female and one co-ed as well as several campus apartments.

There are numerous close organizations from bible studies to athletic clubs to student government, so there is something for everybody on campus.

Anything that you want to get involved with whether it's in your major or just for fun, you can get involved. Most of it is just walk in and if you're interested you would stay and if not you would just move on to something else. So it is really to get involved on campus.

So, if you are looking for a university with high quality programs, excellent teachers and lots of ground to explore, go check out Dickinson State University today. That's it for us we are signing off from Dickinson State University. Hope you had fun on our exclusive tour of the campus. For YOUniversityTV, I'm LaVaughn; we will see you next time.
