Hey what's up guys? Thanks for watching Youniversity TV. I'm Shana.

And I'm Nicole and today we're at Slippery Rock University.

The tour is about to start right now. > > Slippery Rock University is located in the rolling hills of Slippery Rock in Western Pennsylvania just north of Pittsburgh and east of Cleveland.

We have the classic four seasons; we have the beautiful fall here with the leaves changing; we have a winter with just enough snow but now too much to be pesky; we have a spring when the campus just lights up with blossoms and flowering trees and it's just a fun time to be here; and then of course the summer when we have a lot of sun and a few thunderstorms once a while, but I think Pennsylvania as a rule is very welcoming and a very nice place to live and visit.

Slippery Rock University is 650 acres of tree-lined campus blending contemporary and traditional style architecture with great facilities for students; like new editions like the Storm Harbor Equestrian Center; the Advanced Technology and Science Building; and new sleep-style housing.

SRU enrolls about 8,000 students a year; 58% are female, 42% are male, and the number of African-American and Hispanic students is at a ten-year high.

Applicants who hold the recommended college prep curriculum have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and a SAT of 950 or higher or an ACT score of 20 or better. They're automatically admitted into Slippery Rock.

It's important that students have a certain level of academic background before they come in Slippery Rock from their grades and their SAT. We know that students who are coming in with good grades are also succeeding and doing well on campus.

Pennsylvania residents pay about $15,000 a year which includes tuition fees, room and board; for non-Pennsylvania residents the total cost is around $23,000; however, having a GPA of 3.0 or higher will bring costs for out-of-state students down to about $18,000 a year.

The Rock's great. It's a great atmosphere, it's very affordable. You can come here and you won't get lost in with all the people. When you go to a bigger school you're just a number. The professors who know your name here can get one on one interaction with the professors. It's really a great place to be.

Slippery Rock University offers more than 160 academic programs including a doctor of physical therapy.

Even though we're a rural campus, we are close to major metropolitan areas which provide great opportunities for internships, externships and a lot of practical experiences in a real world. Most of our students graduate having had at least one internship--sometimes more.

The most popular majors are elementary education, exercise and rehabilitative science, business and physical education.

Slippery Rock is a long-standing international reputation for teacher Preparation College. This one-room school house embodies the history and legacy at Slippery Rock and was founded as a normal school over 100 years ago. Students still use this college as a place to teach elementary students.

SRU is also well known for natural health and social sciences, sport management, business, dance and computer science and technology. Emma Goethe [assumed spelling] Miller loves theater and the Rock which is why she was a major benefactor, and helped fund the Miller Auditorium. And a plus for all theater majors, her entire wardrobe from the 30's, 40's and 50's is housed right here in Emma's closet. How do I look?

Ninety percent of Slippery Rock professors have a doctorate or terminal degree. To get help from professors, you know they're always available; they have office hours; even if not, you can set up appointments to meet with them. They're pretty much there whenever you need them.

The SRU Rock participates in 18 Division II and TAA sports including football, soccer and volleyball.

Most of the people here that stay for the weekends will be at the football games in the fall. They give out free gifts when you go to the football games; they do the same thing for the basketball games. We have a really great football team too.

SRU offers traditional resident [inaudible] in on-campus apartment complex and new residential suites. Plus students have the opportunity to live in residential common [assumed spelling] 0and on special interest floors.

The residence [inaudible] here are very nice. They're huge; you can get your own room, your own bathroom that really can't be beat. They offer laptops you can take out at the desk and take up to your room and I just think it's very nice what they've done with them. That's why we recommend living in the dorms. You meet people and you just have a lot of fun. The Rock offers more than 100 organizations on campus including Greek life and special interest groups. But if that doesn't tickle your fancy there's more than 20 inter mural sports on campus, including ultimate Frisbee, fly football, volleyball, soccer and even a body building club--529, 530.

The rock walk is another one of our interesting fun facts about Slippery Rock. It's a series of four rocks all the way down the street that represent your four years at Slippery Rock. I'm sitting here on the freshman rock which quite frankly we're all a little bit rough when we get to college. As you go down the rock walk you see the sophomore and junior year rocks which are a little more well-rounded and then you see the senior year rock which is well rounded and polished with a rock solid education.

Think you can carry the weight? Then don't think twice. Slippery Rock University is right for you.

Nicole and I would like to thank you guys for checking out the Rock with us.

And Shana let's not forget to thank Rocky also.

Thanks Rocky.

Thank you.
