Hey, what’s up guys?

Sheana here for
YOUniversityTV with Nicole

at the University of
North Carolina-Wilmington.

Are you done talking, Sheana?

‘Cause I really want
to go on this tour.

Okay, let’s go.

Let’s go!

University of North Carolina
Wilmington is located

in North Carolina’s port city of
Wilmington, just minutes from

historic downtown and close
to Wrightsville Beach.

We have a really great
downtown here,

it's really historic and really
has a lot of interesting shops

and different things like that.

We also have the beach which
is of course a huge draw.

It’s five miles from our campus,
so everyone goes to the beach.

Don’t be surprised if you see
the likes of Richard Gere,

Dakota Fanning or John Travolta
walking around town.

Over 300 movie productions
and eight television series

have been shot right here
in Wilmington, which offers

the largest soundstage
east of Hollywood.

It is home to the hit TV show,
and my personal favorite,

One Tree Hill.

Is that Chad?

Chad, Chad!

UNCW is 650 acres of
spacious arboretum featuring

stately neo-Georgian
architecture brick buildings,

moss-laden oaks, towering pines,
and lakes across campus.

UNCW enrolls approximately
11,000 undergraduates

with an average class size
of only 21 students.

13% of the student body
is multi-cultured

with a male to female
ratio of 45:55,

and more than 20% travel
from outside of North Carolina.

Students admitted into
UNC-Wilmington typically score

between 1110 and 1230
on the SATS,

or receive a 25 on the ACTs.

The writing portion of the ACT
is required for admission,

and out-of-state students
are encouraged to meet

higher end averages.

In-state tuition and fees
are approximately $4,500,

out-of-state tuition and fees
are about $15,000,

and room and board
costs up to $7,000.

UNCW students should
plan to pay a total cost

of around $15,000
per year,

while out-of-staters’ total
will come closer to $25,000.

UNCW is not only
close to the beach,

but it’s one of the top public
universities in the nation.

They offer 73 undergraduate
programs,

30 masters level programs,
and two doctoral,

with business, biology,
communication, and education

the most prominent
among students.

Shayna, no talking in class.

In communication studies,
we have some

very well qualified faculty.

We teach courses in radio
or television production,

we teach courses in
public relations, advertising,

we teach courses in
performance studies.

We just have a wide variety
of courses to offer students

that gives them a broad
exposure to the field.

UNCW is known for its strong
programs in marine biology,

chemistry, education, creative
writing, and film studies.

Because of the high success
rate in these fields,

they offer a doctoral degree
in marine biology

and an educational degree
in educational leadership.

One of the leadership studies
minor graduates e-mailed me;

he indicated that in every
position he was interviewed,

whether it was for
political reasons

or personal reasons
or just a job,

he was always asked about
the leadership studies minor.

UNCW currently has
800 faculty members.

Over 86% hold a PhD
or terminal degree

and 53% are tenured.

We are a faculty who pride
ourselves in teaching students;

we don’t teach to the numbers.

And we love knowing
our students personally.

You become friends with
the professors and stuff,

which is really nice
because you’re not just

a somebody at a big school,
but here you are someone,

so it’s really great.

It’s a lot smaller and a lot
more intimate contact

with your faculty members
than you would come to expect

at a mid-sized
public university.

Yet at the same time,
you have all the opportunities

for research
and undergraduate learning

that you would
typically find there.

UNC-Wilmington Seahawks
offer 19 Division I sports

that compete in the Colonial
Athletic Association.

The men’s basketball team
has won the CAA championship

four times and the men's
swim team won the title

six consecutive years in a row.

We have a lot of
school spirit on campus,

we also have people
who fulfilled it, too.

And you’re gonna find that at
UNCW there’s a number of

different traditions
that will happen.

We have Trask Trek which is
where we start at one location

on campus and we go by each
dorm and pick up students

on our way to Trask to go
see a basketball game.

So that’s one big event.

Hey Nicole.

Whatcha doing?

Well if you rub the talons
of the sea hawk,

you get good luck for a week.

I need some of that.

UNCW offers
eight residence halls,

13 on-campus
apartment buildings,

and seven on-campus
suite buildings.

There is no Greek
housing available,

so all active members live in
the available on-campus housing.

Living on campus,
there's just a wonderful

sense of community .

You just get to be
around all these people,

and you essentially have to be.

But it ends up being the best
thing because you get to meet

so many different people from
so many different backgrounds.

Right now I live in Cornerstone.

It’s a really nice place because
you have the learning

communities in there.

It’s a nice transition from
the high school environment

to the college environment.

UNCW has over
135 organizations on campus.

You can join Greek life or you
can even start your own club.

All you need are three friends
with the same interest as you,

and there you go--
you’ve got your own club.

Hey guys, you want to join
the YOUniversityTV Fan Club?

Yeah, that’d be awesome.

That was easy.

UNCW also has a state of the
art center for marine science

located only about ten
minutes down the road,

as well as an electron
microscope and other

sophisticated research tools
on campus for the use

of students in science
oriented majors.

So if you’re looking for
a mid-sized university

with undergraduate
research possibilities

and cutting edge technologies,
go see more of

the University of North
Carolina-Wilmington

at UNCW.edu.

Oh my god, Nicole.

I cannot believe how
much we covered.

I know, it was amazing.

Thanks for joining us
here at UNCW.

Bye guys.
