Hey guys thanks for tuning in to Youniversity TV. I'm Levon Harvey
[ assumed spelling]. We are at Clarion University in Western Pennsylvania, home of the Golden Eagles. Now we know what time it is, that's right, time to start touring this college campus. Let's do it. Clarion University is located in the rolling hills of Western Pennsylvania near two national wild and scenic rivers. Clarion River and its surroundings offer ideal settings for outdoor recreation. If you definitely like your four seasons it's a beautiful area. In the fall there's certainly colors and great aspects of nature. You can go hiking. We have, you know, extensive woods in the area, we have Cooks Forest which is a little park down the road, there's also the Clarion River is about a mile off campus so it's real nice to go get a canoe from our rec center and just strap it to the top of your car and take it down to the river and make a day out of it. It's a lot of fun. But beyond that it's a great location because we're only 90 minutes away from Pittsburgh, roughly 90 minutes away from Gary, no more than 2 hours away from Cleveland so getting to large metropolitan areas and all the culture that that provides is very easily done. It's a great central location to move any direction. Clarion's 128 acre campus has recently been renovated and transformed into one of the most up to date universities in Pennsylvania while still maintaining many original buildings and preserving the university's historical beauty. Downtown Main Street is only a block away from campus. Come here and enjoy the food and the scenery after all the town of Clarion is known as the autumn leaf capital of the world. Clarion University's student body totals over 6,700 students, 61 percent are women, 96 percent come from the State of Pennsylvania and the remaining 4 percent come from 45 states and 31 countries. Our University population is still a lot of first time in college students and so you get that fresh idea, the fresh flow from the students as they come in rather wide eyed wondering what the college experience will be like. So rather than just standing up in front of class and just lecturing with them I get to enjoy the ride with them as I see them experience college for the first time. The average Clarion applicant typically graduated in the top two fifths of the class and holds a GPA score of approximately 3.2, an average SAT between 950 and 1000 combined with critical and math score or an ACT of 21. I'm looking for students who have something in their credentials and their profile that says that they have the potential to succeed and they really want to perform at a higher level and that's by viewing transcripts, of course the grades, what courses they have and also their SAT scores, extra curric involvement, leadership, community service. About 75 percent of our students are admitted each year. Annual cost for tuition, [inaudible], residents housing and meals for undergraduate students from Pennsylvania are about $13,000 while out of State residents will pay closer to $18,000. The students can do whatever they decide to do. We are guides, advisors, professors who will be there for them to actually accompany them in their path to success. Clarion offers over 90 degree programs with 27 nationally accredited mostly in the Pennsylvania State system. The most popular among students are business, mass media arts, sciences and elementary and secondary education. We offer 9 different academic programs, our college of business internationally accredited. Only 10 percent of the colleges nationwide the schools of business have that accreditation and they're among the best. We also have strong sciences, our science programs which students compete with the best students in the nation. [Inaudible] molecular biology and areas such as that. Clarion is known for its nationally accredited speech pathology program. Students work with patients from the community right here at the public clinic on campus. Two hundred and twenty eight full time faculty members at Clarion are tenured and 86 percent hold their PhD or terminal degree. Classes are excellent. They work with you hands on, the good thing about Clarion it's not a big school so a lot of the universities actually, a lot of the professors I should say know you, you know, right by name, stay in contact with you. And if they see your willingness to learn they'll work with you no problem. I haven't had problems at all with the professors. [ Music ] The Clarion Golden Eagles compete in the NCAA division 2 intercollegiate sports and division 1 in wrestling. Everyone's, you know, really, really proud of their school, always cheering them on. I particularly like to go to the basketball games, really a lot of fun, the, the university, you know, students get into it as well as a lot of people from the community, they come and cheer on the teams so it's a lot of fun. Clarion offers 5 residents halls and apartment style living for students to make themselves comfortable. I did live in a dorm, I live there for about 2 years and 2 best years of my life. I mean they were a lot of fun, we had so much fun, made so many friends, it was just, you know, there's such a community that you feel when you live in the dorm rooms, it's just a blast. Get out of the classroom and have some fun. There are more than 130 student organizations at Clarion University. I'm in the Uversity, we have all kinds of different clubs and organizations. They bring in a bunch of different kinds of acts or just different things to have on campus. We have a lot of outdoor activities, students are interested in camping and fishing, hiking and hunting. If you're worried about those freshmen 15, hit up the student rec center, they've got weight rooms and a cardio track. If you're a dare devil like me, you'll hit up this rock climbing wall. Man that's high. Autumn leaf festival, it's nothing I ever saw before. For the whole week there's carnivals going on, there's a big craft fair on Friday of the week, we don't have school, everyone's out in town and there's a big parade. It really is a pretty big event. Need room to breathe, crave intellectual stimulation? Roll up your sleeves and head down river to Clarion University of Pennsylvania. You're joining us on a sneek peek of Clarion University. I don't know about you but my favorite part about visiting the University is getting to sight see around town. And by far my favorite here is climbing across the Clarion River so make sure you plan your visit. Youniversity TV, I'm Levon, I'm out of here.
