Hey guys, Chef Shaney [assumed spelling] here preparing a delectable dish along side the real experts in the kitchen, Chris Nulshultz [assumed spelling], Barbara Angel [assumed spelling]. 

What we're going to do is make a pasta with fresh tomato sauce. 

Okay. 

And we thought you might want to help us. 

Absolutely. 

Cut up some tomatoes. 

Okay. 

Chef's prepared, she's been [inaudible] all sorts of delicious dishes. So in your own words what is a chef? 

A chef is somebody I believe who can look at food and see it as a picture. 

Chef's use fresh ingredients and a variety of tools to create their mouth watering masterpieces. Can you ever have too many tools? 

No. 

Can we, can we take a look at, do you have a tool drawer? 

I guess, yes. 

Oh, I didn't know they made drawers this wide. 

I have my tools here and I have just some of my spices here. 

Oh. Once you're a master in the kitchen you have lots of options including working at a restaurant, hospital or school. You can also start a catering business or become a personal chef. 

My job is to go to my clients house several days a week and cook for different clients and cook for them for the whole week. And kind of do all the grocery shopping before you get there and then take it all in and unpack it and then you just start cooking. 

While chef's often set their own schedule expect to put in long hours especially if you work in a restaurant. 

If your kitchen is open late for dinner you don't leave your restaurant until about midnight. 

If you're a restaurant owner or a personal chef your job doesn't end in the kitchen. It's not about just the cooking. The, probably 70 percent of it becomes doing the business part of it. 

Formal training is required to become a chef but if you want a secure job in it's hot paying kitchen completely a two or four year college degree program in culinary arts will give you and edge. And luckily for chef's we all need to eat. So landing a job that suits your taste shouldn't be a problem. 

Anybody can make a living at it but people can make a very good living if they want to put in the time and they have the passion to go a little bit further with it. 

Most chef's earn between 26 and $46,000 a year. 

Yeah it has to come back to a boil. 

In order to spend hours in the kitchen you have to have to have an appreciation and passion for food. 

We get excited going to grocery stores. Kind of a rare breed of person, most people really get stressed, you know, get stressed when they have to go grocery shopping and it's a high for a chef. 

You also need to be a multi-tasker and a hard worker. 

It's physical, you have to be on your feet. 

Just a face on a can, think again. Chef Boyardee put in his time slaving over the stove. Boyardee was an actual chef. He came to the U.S. from Italy and perfected his spaghetti and meatballs recipe. If you like food and how can you not, a career as a chef could be a recipe for a successful future. Now time for the finishing touches on our pasta dish.
