While you're watching the plays on the field, the real action is happening upstairs. I was born ready, let's go. What do you call this room? This is our scoreboard control room. Chad Massena is the director of scoreboard operations for Dolphin stadium. Everything that goes out on the boards outside is under my supervision. So you might be thinking, how hard can it be to run a scoreboard. Well, this is the big leagues. On game day people come in, we'll have guys running video tape, people building graphics, people on the field-shooting camera, and everybody just has a script, and we all go through the whole routine for every game we have. Working in the stadium there are all types of events, from concerts, professional sports, and with a schedule like that, Chad is bound to go into overtime. Whenever you work in this industry, you're working nights, and most of the games are nights. So you're here weekends, nights, holidays. But it all pays off when working those crazy hours. I'm so jealous. So you can sit here and watch a concert that's happening right there. Yeah. For free? Yes. Sure, yeah. Wow. That's right. [ Chuckles ] If you want a chance to sit in the good seats, you'll need a bachelor's degree. Broadcasting, television, anything towards, that gears towards that is good. Chad also recommends getting your feet wet. The best thing to do is to get experience. Get it, go to guidance counselor, career counselor, see if you can have an internship at a TV station, or a production house. Once you have that degree, you can get a job in a variety of areas. Anything really in TV we can do. We could even teach. A lot of people I know retire from doing this business went into teaching either high school or college. And passed their knowledge along. And that's another good route to go. As long as there are games, there are scoreboard operators. Do you think that scoreboard operator jobs are increasing? What can students look forward to? With all the new stadiums being built now, instead of having everything in one stadium, a lot, you have a football stadium, baseball stadium, hockey arena, there are a lot of opportunities out there. So, you must be wondering the ballpark salary a scoreboard operators makes. Depends on your experience and your level. It can range from the 30's up to the, the 80's. Depends on how long you've been working. So, what type of person would make a good scoreboard operator? Someone who can work the long hours, have a lot of patience, and they're good with people. Some scoreboard operators can really get the fans roaring. At one LSD football game. [ Crowds cheering ] The fans were so loud that it registered on the school's geology department's seismograph. You want to get in the game without being in the game? This could be the career for you. I'm Shauna for YouniversityTV. Now I got to get back. Ready camera two? Take camera two. [ Music ]
