Hey guys, Shayna here
for YOUniversity TV.

Today we're at the University
of Phoenix where for more than

thirty years they've reinvented
higher education for the working

student, giving them
the opportunity to earn a degree

without putting their
lives on hold.

Let's take a closer look.

University of Phoenix has more
than 200 locations across the US

as well as online access
throughout the world.

Most of the campuses
and learning centers

are conveniently located near
business parks and centers

with close access
to the highway.

Like the Orlando, Florida
location we're visiting today.

I just find it that every time
I go to a major city there's

always a University of Phoenix
campus there, even when you

don't expect to see one, there
is a University of Phoenix.

So, they're readily accessible.

No need for these,
the University has

a state of the art library that
offers electronic books.

As well as more than
72 online databases.

And the best part?

They can be accessed
from virtually anywhere.

University of Phoenix currently
has around 455,600students.

Forty-two percent of our
students are ethnically diverse,

we have students
from all walks of life.

According to The Chronicle
of Higher Education,

University of Phoenix has
the most veterans enrolled

among the top 500 colleges
and universities.

To enter into an associate's
or bachelor's degree,

at University of Phoenix
students must have earned

a high school diploma or GED
and must complete

all required forms
for admission.

SAT and ACT scores are not
required for admittance.

Tuition ranges in cost per
credit hour depending

on the location, degree program
of choice and if the degree

is earned online or on campus.

Students will pay approximately
$10,000 to $15,000 dollars

per year for an
undergraduate degree.

In addition, the university
offers various options for

financing your education
including federal and state

financial aid, loans and grants,
employer tuition reimbursement

and scholarships for
those who qualify.

For the non-traditional student,

University of Phoenix
may be the perfect fit.

If you need to maintain a job or
are juggling a family or career

and an active lifestyle,
you'll fit right in with

the university's flexible
schedules.

I chose University of Phoenix
because I don't have to

you know, fit its needs,
it fits my needs.

Um, my flexibility, schedule,
I'm a busy 24/7 mom

so I mean it works with me,
I get to take my classes

when I have time.

So when I put
the kids to sleep

or I still have time for my
husband, then I take my classes.

Maintaining the lifestyle that
I have, that I enjoy with

my children and getting
the education for myself,

Phoenix was a perfect fit.

University of Phoenix offers
degree programs in various areas

including Business,
Education, Health Care,

and Arts and Sciences,
among others.

Some of the most popular
degree programs are

a Master of Business
Administration,

Bachelor of Science in Business,
Nursing, and Criminal Justice

and Master of Arts
and Education.

Alright, so we're gonna be
working on our team project,

organizational structure
and I'll go ahead and do

the part about the pyramid
structure.

Perfect!

The university promotes
a learning environment

infused with modern technology
and team collaboration.

Great, so what part
are you going to do?

The learning model really
promotes the collaboration

among your peers
in your class,

whether it's an online
environment,

or in the local classroom.

There's a lot of collaboration
involved; you have to work

on projects with your learning
team and there's a lot

of networking so you do build--
our students do build a network.

And they support each other
from the onset of their program,

and sometimes they stay with
those same learning teams

through their gradu--
through graduation.

In a typical classroom, some
of the activities will include

a lot of roll-playing,
scenarios, mock teaching;

they have to do lots
of mock teaching

since they're aspiring
teachers.

Um, review of evidence-based
practice, those type of things.

With graduate students,
aspiring to be school leaders,

we do an awful lot of scenarios
and case studies,

and those type of things.

With a traditional school where
the professor stands in front

of the board and lectures
and that's the main source

of information that the student
gets in class,

University of Phoenix,
there is a facilitator

in front of the room who helps
you get through the material.

So yes, there is some lecturing
going on but there's also a lot

of in-class activities
and activities that occur

with these teams, as well.

And so it's really kind
of a holistic approach

to education.

The classes are kept small
to offer both individual

and group-based activities
and discussions.

For instance, at Axia College
of University of Phoenix,

classes are limited
to just 20 students.

In other University of Phoenix
programs, classes are kept

to less than 25 students.

The university has more than
20,000 faculty members for

its online and campus courses.

The faculty holds master's
or doctoral degrees

and average 16 years
of experience in their field.

They give us a email address,
they give us phone numbers,

and they give us the times
that they're available.

And where they can be reached,
work number, everything they

give to us, home
phone number,

and they make themselves
accessible.

They really hold your hand from
the counselors to the teachers

that I have uh...I feel as
though it's all taken care of.

I think the best thing about
the nursing program

in University of Phoenix
is that the faculty

are real-world professionals
who do the job

every day and that they're
surrounded in the classroom

by other nurses who are there
seeking higher education.

So there's lots of opportunity
to exchange knowledge and learn

from people of varied
backgrounds.

Talk about a slam dunk,
Cleveland Cavaliers' center

Shaquille O'Neal received
his Master's in Business

Administration from University
of Phoenix in 2005.

According to the Environmental
Protection Agency,

University of Phoenix is ranked
among the top ten colleges

and universities that
utilize green-power.

They purchase nearly
47 million kilowatt hours

of green energy each year.

So if you're looking for
a university that combines

interpersonal communication
with the latest technology

to jumpstart your career,
then start thinking ahead,

go check out your local
University of Phoenix

location or visit online
to learn more.

Thanks so much for joining
us here at just one

of University of Phoenix's 200
locations across the country.
