Hey guys, Sheana Jeanne here. Come join me for a campus tour of the University of Dayton. Let’s go. The University of Dayton is located in Dayton, Ohio, about two miles from downtown. Dayton’s a great city and it’s kind of an unknown entity to a lot of people. Very close to Cincinnati and Columbus, but right here in town we have the Dayton Dragons, a Single-A baseball team that’s a lot of fun; a lot of people like to come visit, see that--those games. There are tons of art events going on. We have a few different theaters. Lots of different concert venues to attend. We’ve got lots of great restaurants. So there’s a lot to do in the downtown area for sure. The University of Dayton campus is over 250 acres and includes plenty of lush green space for students to work and play. The campus features a mixture of historic brick buildings and modern architecture. Dayton is one of only three Marianist institutions in the country, focusing on educating the whole person in and through a community that supports and challenges all who become a part of it. One of the real special things the College of Arts and Sciences has is the Fitz Center for Leadership and Community. That attracts students from all across the University of Dayton to get involved in service and community building projects in relationship with partners all across the region. The University of Dayton enrolls approximately 10,000 students, including 7,100 full time undergraduates hailing from all 50 states and over 15 countries. The gender makeup is split 50/50 and the student to faculty ratio is just 14:1. The students are friendly, bright, outgoing. I feel blessed every day when I walk into the classroom. Everyone is very friendly, you know, people will go out of their way to hold doors for you. They will, you know, smile. One time I slipped when it was snowy and a complete stranger came and helped me up, and I just thought that that was awesome to see that and I feel like you can only find that at the University of Dayton. Although every application is reviewed individually, the middle 50% of admitted students scored 23 to 28 on the ACT or 1070 to 1240 on the SAT critical reading and math sections. The average high school GPA is a 3.6. Tuition and fees at the University of Dayton are about $29,000 a year. Over 90% of Dayton’s students receive financial assistance, including guaranteed merit-based scholarships that can total as much as $110,000 over four years, making the University one of the best values among comparable institutions. The University of Dayton offers over 70 academic programs across four accredited divisions: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business Administration, the School of Education and Allied Professions, and the School of Engineering. But we have lots of applied experience for the students. The Finance area, students manage million dollar portfolios, real portfolios of the University of Dayton endowment. The Marketing area has a marketing challenge, Entrepreneurship has a business planning challenge, MIS and Operations have senior capstone courses that put them in contact with actual companies on actual projects that will be implemented. And I think that says a lot for U.D.’s interest in creating a well rounded, complete student. The University of Dayton is home to one of the top entrepreneurship programs in the country. Through a unique class, students are able to control a portion of the university’s endowment and turn a serious profit. The university is also home to one of the largest student run businesses in the country, operating several locations across campus including this one. What can I get for you? Flyer Enterprises is a $1.4 million business that’s 100% student run. So that’s something that definitely is unique about the University of Dayton. Especially for our business majors that are able to become a manager of a company, or even maybe even a CEO of a company. The University of Dayton employs over 800 full and part-time faculty members, the majority of whom hold a doctorate or terminal degree in their field, and 75% of whom are tenured. My professors are awesome. One of the things I love most about Dayton is the fact that you’re not a number. My professors really know my name, I know them. They make an effort to get to know me on a more personal level. And that’s been extremely important to me in finding a university. The Dayton Flyers intercollegiate sports teams competed the NCAA Division I level, while the football team competes in the Pioneer football league. Oh Rudy! Basketball is very big on campus. We’re actually voted one of the top student sections by ESPN Magazine. If you’re not a varsity athlete, don’t worry. Over 70% of students participate in the university’s nationally ranked intramural sports program. With over 90% of undergrads living on campus, there’s no shortage of housing here at the University of Dayton. You get to choose between a co-ed residence hall, apartments, town homes, lofts, or the university owns 400 homes just like this one. It’s awesome to live in a house on campus. All your best friends are your neighbors. Everyone is just a block away, a couple steps away. There’s a great feeling in both the neighborhoods north and south and it’s just great to be a part of it. It just spreads the Dayton community even that much more. On the first Friday on campus, all students are welcome to what we call Up the Orgs. And that’s where all 190 student organizations come out on KU field and they have their tables set up, and students are-- go from table to table and they get information about each student organization. And they’re able to sign up right there first weekend on campus. Really a great opportunity, really makes it easy to get involved here. Talk about innovative. The University of Dayton is responsible for inventing the Domino's heat-wave pizza delivery box. Smells good. Come on guys, who ate all the pizza? So whether it’s an orientation to serving others or inventing the next big thing, the Flyers have got you covered. For YOUniversityTV, I’m Sheana Jeanne. So long from the University of Dayton.
