Ferrari! Jessica! Can you believe this awesome campus? Yeah and beautiful California weather. We're so lucky. Yeah, we are. We totally fit in here too. I know with all the students around. I'm sure. They're going to think we go here. They totally are. Are you ready? [ Laughter ] Obviously. Let's do it! San Diego State University is located in San Diego, California. Known for its near perfect climate, miles of sandy beaches and fun-filled waterfront activities. First of all you have the beach, so as soon as I moved here, I moved Midwest and from Minnesota so I would do everything at the beach. You could drive up to Disneyland, Six Flags. You've got the zoo here; it's world-class. You've got Sea World. The SDSU campus covers more than 300 acres, with mission-style architecture and Mediterranean gardens featuring a fountain and plants from all around the world. SDSU enrolls more than 30,000 undergrads from more than 100 countries. Forty-two percent of students are male, 58 percent are female and 41 percent are from diverse backgrounds. [Inaudible] very competitive institutions, actually one of the most popular universities in California. We actually had over 62,000 applications last year. So we're really looking at the test scores for students that either their ACT or their SAT and making sure that they have a GPA that's a cut above. Fees for SDSU are among the lowest in the nation for a four year public university. California residents pay around 3500 per year and registration fees. Non-residents pay an additional 10,000 dollars a year for tuition and for room and board, add about 12,000 dollars. [ Music ] San Diego State offers more than 190 international programs in 46 countries. So I just made my way over here to the education abroad office to pick where I might like to go. Some of the student favorites are Australia, Japan, Spain, Italy, sounds pretty awesome doesn't it? Some of the top degree programs are business, criminal justice, international business, kinesiology, liberal studies. I get most people interested in anthropology when they're doing their general education. Most people come in with a major whether it's business or nursing or something like that, and they think that's what they want to do with their life. Throughout the semester we're focusing on gathering our own data, which is interesting because in previous classes I had to look at old research and kind of decipher things from there. But since I'm doing it you know, first hand, it's really interesting to have that perspective. So tell me about this amazing piece of artwork. This mural's from the 1930's and it was done by an undergraduate student and it was an oil painting done directly on poured concrete. So what we did is first we put sealant on it and the we put woven fabric on it and then electrical tape. And to get it off the wall we used jackhammers to send shockwaves through the mural and then chisels to roll it off. And we ended up carrying it out in a tube. The reason they had to move it is it was stuck in the basement of this building hidden behind a lowered ceiling. San Diego employs 979 full-time and 800 part-time faculty members. We have what's called a teacher scholar model. The teachers follow a model means that professors have to be good teachers in the classroom as well as good scholars in their own academic areas. For students, this has a really interesting benefit. It means that you have a professor in the classroom not just a TA. It also means your professor in the classroom is someone up-to-date on current developments in their field. The San Diego Aztecs compete in the NCAA Division I FDS primarily in the mountain west conference. If you're going to go to school here, you've got to find a place to live. Like check out the on-campus residency halls. [ Music ] After a long day of classes, you need a place to come and relax. Try any one of the eight residence halls here on campus. This is Amy's room and it's awesome. There's plenty of room to study and take a load off. At San Diego State there's more than 200 student organizations as well as 50 fraternities and sororities to join. We have a partnership with UCSD to operate the Mission Bay Aquatic Center, so it's a very reasonably priced recreation as well as the classes. They have done so much. I haven't taken any classes but I've taken leadership training, like you go kayaking through [inaudible] or whatever, you go sailing with your peers and all that stuff and it's just been amazing. So what else do students come here to do? We also have classes for the recs so you can actually take bowling classes if you'd like. Oh no! I'm so bad. So you said students come here to sometimes during the year they have activities and the school throws parties and stuff. Think you can cut it working in a real hospital? You'll find out in the human simulation center. Here at the SDSU School of Nursing, these students are practicing on simulators and hospital equipment. Makes the experience as real as possible. Go check it out. Sh! Be quiet. [ Music ] We can't fake the good stuff so get real and join the Aztecs at San Diego State University. [ Music ] What a beautiful view from up here. You know it's so cool to mingle with the students down below and then come up here and see everything. So this is where we're going to leave you. I hope you are loving San Diego State University as much as we are. I'm Ferrari St. Paul [assumed spelling]. And I'm Jessica! See you later. [ Music ]
