Hey, Nicole, where are we at today? Florida Southern College. Oh, in Lakeland, Florida! Yes! I like it. Let's explore. Okay. Florida Southern College is located in sunny central Florida about 30 minutes from Tampa and 45 minutes from Orlando and Disneyworld. Lakeland itself is also very cultural. The downtown area, you can tell just by the layout of the city and everything, it's awesome. The parks, the restaurants, there's two malls here, it's awesome. Florida Southern sits on 100 acres of suburban campus alongside the shores of beautiful Lake Hollingsworth. For a little relaxation students can walk along the boardwalk, or through the gardens with the palm trees, the fruit trees, the fountains, taking in the view, and of course, the sunshine. One of America's most famous architects, Frank Lloyd Wright, designed these 12 buildings known as Child of the Sun. They're listed in the National Register of Historic Places and attracts more than 30,000 visitors a year. There are 1,700 students enrolled at FSC who come from 40 states and 31 countries. Males represent 41% of the student body, females 59% and minorities, 14%. The student to faculty ratio is 12 to one. The average student admitted to FSC holds an average SAT score between 1020-1160, an ACT between 21-26, and an academic GPA of 3.4. Exceptional Florida Southern freshmen who meet the requirements are guaranteed admission into the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Tuition for full time undergraduates is a little over $22,000. And room and board are close to $8,000. FSC is recognized as a best value college and about 96% of students receive financial aid. FSC offers more than 50 academic and preprofessional programs. Plus several graduate programs. We also have the self designed major where a student can combine a number of interests into a major. So, for instance, one student who was interested in art and science is now going to pursue becoming a medical illustrator. So they combined both science courses, art courses, and built that into a major, so there's that wonderfully unique opportunity there for really motivated students who have a goal that's not easily met through a traditional major. Some student faves are Business Administration, International Business, Biology and Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, and Nursing. The Princeton Review's listing of great broadcast journalism programs honored the broadcast journalism program at Florida Southern. In three. Florida Southern College has a great program in music in performance, composition, education, and management. I'm studying to be a pastor in the Methodist Church so a lot of what I'm doing right now, I'm trying to think about how it affects where I'm gonna be in the next few years. And a lot of what I've gotten to do at Florida Southern is apply the things I'm learning in class and the things that I'm doing in the candidacy process to be a pastor, and I'm getting to be a leader in Wesley fellowship. I'm getting to be a part of dialogues and conversations with my classmates who are also gonna be pastors. And we get to bounce ideas off of one another and share some of the different things that we're going through and different ideas. 90% of faculty at FSC hold a PhD or the highest degree in their field and they hail from prestigious institutions such as Yale, Vanderbilt, Duke, Georgetown, Boston, and Emory University. We have about 108, I think, faculty members, full time, and then other part time folks, as well. We advise, each student's given an advisor and so we see them at least once a semester. We help them not only to get the right classes and graduate in a timely fashion, but also we help them to have a career plan. Florida Southern College competes in the NCAA Division II athletics with 18 award winning varsity teams. FSC has brought 26 national championship titles home and boasts over 420 All American athletes. FSC has 10 living options. Students have the choice of single, double, or triple room residence halls. Suite style or apartment. Rock on! Residential life at Florida Southern like, like, when you go and check in to Florida Southern you're checking in, not to just your dorm room or whatever, like, you're checking into a community and they always, they said that to us when we first got here to Florida Southern and I, after living here for a semester on campus like I, I couldn't put it in any better words. Like we, it is community, like the girls in my hall and my RA, we're all so close and like, we do hall parties and our doors are always open and I just love that about Florida Southern. More than 70 student organizations let you explore new interests, develop your leadership skills, and make friends for life. Six fraternities, and six sororities offer a taste of Greek life. Within three months of receiving their degree, 94% of graduates have landed a job in their field or have moved on to graduate or professional schools. FSC still holds a track record for 100% placement rate for medical school graduates. Well, with our tour over, Nicole and I are gonna head on into the Wellness Center and sign up for some cool stuff like horseback riding... -- ...And kayaking. -- And skiing. -- Yeah. -- And yoga. Absolutely. With Lakeland averaging over 330 days of sunshine, we're not gonna let it go to waste. No, we're not. I'm Nicole Aaron. And I'm Ferrari St. Paul. We'll see you next time.
