What's up, guys? I'm Ferrari St. Paul, and you are tuning in to YOUniversity TV, where we put "you" in "university." Today, we are taking a tour of the University of West Alabama. Let's take a look around. Come on. The University of West Alabama is in Livingston, Alabama and is one of the oldest universities in the South. Students can go out to the Livingston Country Club here, go out and play golf. There are many different places on the river, water sports, fishing, camping. With the interstate being as close as it is, if students want to take a weekend trip somewhere, they're right here on the interstate and can go anywhere possible. I know a lot of times people may think that Livingston is in the middle of nowhere, but we like to think that it's in the middle of everything. Love to hike or fish? There are nature trails and a lake right on campus. Lake LU spans more than 50 acres. UWA has 2,400 on campus students. Fifty-five percent are women, and forty-five percent are men. The average class size is a comfortable 30 students. General admissions to get into our university is an 18 on the ACT. Our average ACT score is around a 21. The University of West Alabama's in-state tuition fee is about $8,000, while out-of-staters pay around $12,000. UWA has over 60 undergraduate programs to choose from and ten Master's level programs. Some of the most common among students are Education, Business, Liberal Arts, and Sciences and Math. We get business and industry to come into our classrooms. We get our students to go into business and industry. So they get a lot of hands-on, application oriented, experiential learning that you wouldn't get at other institutions. Yee-haw! UWA is one of the few schools to have their very own rodeo program and fully equipped equestrian riding rings on campus grounds. Plus, they've qualified for college national finals four out of their first five seasons riding. Teachers from the University of West Alabama are some of the best. Seventy-eight percent even hold a terminal degree. Students are lucky enough to get a chance to build a close learning relationship with their teachers, thanks to a student to faculty ratio of 18:1. Professors here at UWA are very friendly, and they care about you. They know your name by the second week of school in every classroom. The West Alabama Tigers compete in the Eastern Division of the Gulf South Conference at the NCAA Division II level. Alabama sponsors 12 different sports in men's and women's teams, such as football, baseball, basketball, tennis, rodeo, and cross country. UWA students are learning how to help athletes stay on top of their game. Injured softball or baseball players use this weighted ball and trampoline for their shoulder injury. The University of West Alabama has six residence halls. All are apartment style and will hold up to 700 students. Plus, they offer an additional apartment complex for graduate and married students, and all buildings are conveniently located near classes and campus services. My freshman year, I lived on campus. I lived in the dorms. And it was the best experience I could have, because you meet so many new people and you know everything that's going on. I enjoy living on campus. It's like a small apartment. I have my own refrigerator and stove and my own bathroom and stuff. I like it. The University of West Alabama offers plenty of clubs and organizations to give students a chance to be a great leader, a planner, organizer, musician, athlete, or a member of one of the 12 sororities or fraternities. Well, I wasn't gonna do it at first, and then I went to rush. And everybody was really nice. And formals and mixers, and it's really fun. Keeps me busy. The games and the athletics have a big, big support. There's cheerleading, which I am a cheerleader, and there's baseball, softball, basketball, rodeo. So if you're looking for a small school with a southern flavor, be sure to check out the University of West Alabama. Thanks for riding along with us here in Livingston on our tour of UWA. I'm Ferrari St. Paul, and I'll see you later. Ooh, ha ha ha.
