Hey, what's up guys. You're watching YOUniversityTV. I'm Sheana, and today we're at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. UNCP is home of the Braves. I'm Nicole Erin. Let's take a tour. University of North Carolina Pembroke is located in the sandy hills of North Carolina. It's known for its beautiful scenic landscaping, golf courses, southern hospitality, and temperate climates. In the fall and in the spring, you'll see people out here laying out, sunning outside. They show movies outside, usually right back over here. Pretty recent movies they have. And they'll come and cater food. UNCP is spread among 140 acres of beautiful landscaping and buildings, easily accessible from one end of the campus to the other. North Carolina has great weather, I think. I've been here all my life. I love it. Most of the time, seasons are really defined here, spring, summer, fall, winter. North Carolina Pembroke enrolls about 6,000 students, with a gender makeup of 36% men to 63% women. The student to faculty ratio is 17:1, with an average class size of 30. And we have a really diverse campus, one of the most diverse campuses around, because we have African-Americans and white Americans, as well as lots of Native Americans, Asian-Americans. We have an increasing international presence. UNCP all started with the Lumbee tribe, who are the largest tribe east of the Mississippi and the ninth largest in the nation. The Lumbee take their name from the Lumbee River that runs through Robeson County. The ancestors of the Lumbee opened the school, first known as Croatan Normal Indian School, in hope of benefitting tribal members. The school went on to be a great success, and is now known as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Serving students from all backgrounds, UNCP requires students to submit a combination of SAT or ACT, GPA, and your high school class rank. We have rolling admissions, so students can really apply any time as soon as they have senior classes if they're a freshman, or whenever they're thinking about transferring in, they need to complete an application, pay a $40 application fee, submit a high school transcript with SAT or ACT scores. Once we get it, we review it. And if they're accepted, we actually give them a call. Students from in-state can expect to pay around $4,000 a year in tuition and fees, while those coming from out of state will pay about $11,000. And all students living on campus will pay an additional $5,000 for room and board. In short, residents will pay a total of about $9,000, and out of staters, around $16,000. UNC-Pembroke offers 44 undergraduate majors and 17 graduate programs. The most popular undergrad majors include business, education, social work, and biology. UNCP has prepared me a lot, I think, for where I'm going to be heading in my particular career field. They put an emphasis on hands-on projects and experiences here on campus, in classes and with extra-curricular activities. They really do a lot. They pay a lot of attention to advising us for our future careers. Over 73% of UNCP faculty have their PhD or terminal degree. And over 63% are fulltime faculty. The faculty at UNC-Pembroke is extremely caring. I think that we really understand the student population that we have here. And we work really hard to engage our students and to assist students that need extra help. UNC-Pembroke is a member of the Peach Belt athletic conference at the NCAA Division II level, with basketball, cross country, soccer, track, baseball, football, golf, wrestling , tennis, and volleyball available for students. UNCP has several options for when it comes to where you put your head down at night. Male and female freshmen each have two dorms. Or you can decide to live right here in Pinehall, which is coed. My experience living on campus, residence life in dorms, it was fun, they have activities all the time. They have competitions between the houses, who had the most school spirit. It was a good experience, which I definitely recommend to students when I talk to them when they come look at the school. Definitely think that's where I met most of my friends, living on the same hall with all of them. There are more than 100 clubs and organizations at UNC-Pembroke. Sororities, fraternities and other organizations sponsor social and cultural events for all students to get involved with, as well. I'm really active being a mass communications major in the WNCP TV here on campus, our television studio. Help out a lot with interviews with guest speakers we have. We have several student produced shows here on campus that I'm involved in and have helped develop and create some of them, as well. And I also had some experience calling play by play for some of the athletic events here on campus, as well. So if you're looking for a university that distinguishes itself from peer institutions by offering an affordable, highly personalized educational experience and a great diversity of students, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke is just what you need. We hope you had as much fun as we did today on our tour of campus. Thanks for joining us at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Bye.
