Hey what's up, YOUniversity TV watchers. I'm Nicole Erin. And I'm Ferrari St. Paul. And today we're at the University of Missouri. Kansas City! Are you ready to rock this tour? Oh yeah! The University of Missouri, Kansas City is located 15 minutes from downtown, and it's within walking distance of historic neighborhoods such as Westport, the jazz district, and the arts community, with the Nelson Atkins Museum and Kemper Museums of Art. Kansas City's one of the biggest cities in the United States. We have the plaza which is right downtown, which is one of the biggest shopping areas in this--in the Midwest. So we have major professional sports teams, a lot of colleges around here. So we're not rural in any shape of the word. So we're a very big city, and we have a lot of the big things that big cities offer. UMKC is a beautiful 194-acre, multi-campus, with many trees, grass, and an overall feel of a park in the city. More than 14,000 students including roughly 9,000 undergraduates come from all 50 states and 52 countries. UMKC is known to be one of the most diverse institutions in Missouri, with 30% of students of color. Forty percent are male and sixty percent are female. Our admissions policy is threefold. We look at the entire candidate. We're gonna look at a combination of a student's class rank and GPA. We're gonna look at a combination of their ACT score, and that can be on a sliding scale based off of their class rank and GPA. We accept both the SAT and the ACT. And we look at the 17 unit core, which for UMKC is four units of math, four units of English, three units of science, three units of social studies, two units of a consecutive foreign language, and one unit of a fine art. In-state students and some Kansas County residents will pay an annual cost of about $8,000 towards tuition, while out of staters will pay closer to $16,000. Students staying in residence halls will have an annual fee of $8,000 on average. UMKC has over 120 undergraduate programs, as well as graduate degrees and PhD's. Students are attracted to majors like biology, health care, music performance, education, business administration, and engineering. We're a school of professional schools. We have pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, medicine, law schools here, as well as business and education, and the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Biological Sciences. UMKC offers a six-year medical program, one of the few in the country. It is highly competitive, and students can earn a BAMD with lots of clinical experience in their pocket. Nice to meet you. The Bloch School of Business and the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is one of the top ten entrepreneurship programs in the nation, with an incubator in which students can start their business with the support of the university. Well, we have not only this, but several other simulations of real world clinical settings. So pediatrics, for adults, critical care. It gives them an opportunity to experience this in a simulated, safe, non-threatening environment versus going over in the real world where there might be more stress or not know what to expect. The feedback is really quite phenomenal. It's not only from the students but from faculty and other individuals who come. Ninety-five percent of UMKC faculty has the highest degree in their field. UMKC Kangaroos are members of the NCAA Division One Summit League. The Roo Crew, we're the group of fans that go to all of the sporting events on campus and get loud, and you know, cheer our team on, and try to tear the other team down to make them play a little worse. So we're those crazy fans that get all painted up before the games and go out. Hey Nicole, whatcha doing? Drawing Kacey the Kangaroo. Who's that? The one and only mascot for UMKC. Hey, did you know that Walt Disney actually drew the original version of this? No way! Did you know that he went to elementary school right here at Grant Hall? No way! Yes way! While housing is not required for students, it's highly encouraged. There are traditional residence halls and on campus apartments, as well as the option of joining a living/learning community. Live on campus. It's the most fun you'll ever have. We have great living/learning communities, which is where you're gonna stay with students that have similar majors or similar career goals. So those are people you'll study with, you'll eat with, you'll go to the gym with. And you'll really make bigger connections at UMKC than you would maybe at some other schools. UMKC has over 300 student organizations, including academic and social groups, Greek life, and intramural sports. President Harry Truman is a UMKC alum and gave a speech on these steps right in front of Scofield Hall, the first building on campus. Dream of saving lives or building a business? The knowledge you need to fill your pouch you'll find at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Hop to it. Well, thanks for hanging out with us here in Kansas City, Missouri. We hope you had a rocking time on our tour. Nicole and I are out. Bye.
