Welcome to beautiful Binghamton University in Upstate New York. It's a perfect place to explore the outdoors and academic opportunities.

Binghamton University is located just 3 hours from New York City, 3 hours from Philadelphia, and 5 hours from Boston.

It's a great community because it's very safe and the community is very accessible. We have a free bus service for students to get around anywhere they want to go, and we have a pretty well-known opera company, great symphony orchestra, farm teams for the Mets and for the Ottawa Senators hockey team, so there's always something.

Campus is lush with greenery and rolling hills. The on-campus nature preserve consists of 190 acres of protected forest and wetlands with hiking, biking and running trails, plus a 6-acre pond.

Binghamton enrolls over 11,500 undergraduates a year, with a 50-50 men to women ratio, 33 percent of students are of color and 18 percent are from outside of New York State including international students from over 100 countries.

The admission standards are selective. We get quite a number of applications. This last year, we had over 26,000 for 2200 positions in the freshmen class. So we get to choose the students who are not only academically strong, but who we feel are gonna bring something special to the campus climate.

The average student who attends Binghamton has a high school GPA of 93, an average SAT score of 1275, or an average ACT score of 28. New York State residents will pay close to 4,500 dollars in annual tuition, while out-of-staters will pay about 6,000 dollars more. Additional fees are around 2,000 dollars, and room and board for all students is about 10,500 dollars. The Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science is the fastest growing school of engineering in the state of New York. And speaking of speed, if you wanna get on the fast track to earning your degree, Binghamton offers various degree programs that allow students to earn a bachelor's and a master's degree in 5 years instead of the typical 6.

Binghamton offers 130 academic offerings and students can also design their own major.

So in one of the classes, we we're using mammogram data and we were trying to develop this piece of software that would help take all these characteristics out of the data and help determine if the cancer was benign or malignant. It was using real life data so it wasn't like prepared by the university. We try to like fit it so it would work out nicely. So there were a lot of times where the data would come up with these weird situations and you had to really think critically in order to kind of solve the problem and it give you a good feeling when you are able to finally figure it out.

In the past, I have science students to the neighbor research lab in Washington DC where they have had direct opportunity to be involved in military base operations.

Some favorites among students are psychology, engineering, English, accounting, nursing, biology, political science, and management.

U-E-R? That was wrong. If you've got your eye on a degree in optometry, dentistry or healthcare, you usually look into Binghamton's Early Assurance Program. If you're admitted as an undergrad, you're guaranteed a spot in the grad program.

There are about 850 faculty members in Binghamton, almost 600 fulltime including a Pulitzer Prize winner and virtually all have PhDs or terminal degrees.

Professors, they've just been--I mean in the courses that I've had, they've been very approachable and they're really there to help you get an understanding of some of the things that you'd be doing out in the real world, and they come from all different kinds of background, so really been helpful.

The Binghamton Bearcats play at the division 1 level in the America East Conference.

We're in division 1, which is really cool. Basketball is a huge deal. Everyone goes down to the basketball games. We have the BU Zoo. Students go down and paint their faces up. They go to our soccer games too which is a huge thing. Everyone gets really excited, goes down in the games and really supports our teams.

Binghamton has this infrastructure, this residential college system that I think is the best thing that it's done over the years and then still a defining feature of this institution.

The way our community is set up really fosters like family atmosphere.

 Okay.

That's why we have residential buildings rather than dorms. We--our college is within a college. So when we graduate, we actually also graduate from the communities that we choose to graduate from. So you have the big graduation, then you have a smaller graduation. I think only the private Ivies do that.

It's all student-driven, and so whatever students are interested in, they develop a club or an organization.

It's really easy to get involved. If you're not involved, you're really not looking for it. You're just sitting in your room 'cause there's always stuff to do.

We were named by the Princeton Review, as a matter of fact, one of the top colleges in the country with the most things to do on campus.

The Peace Corps rates Binghamton as one of the top volunteer producing universities, and Binghamton is one of only 11 colleges in the nation to receive Princeton Review's highest Green Rating. Green is a frame of mind here, not just a school color. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Remember that.

Not only are Binghamton student concerned about protecting the environment, but also about protecting nature's little creatures. Students built these custom humps to help salamanders cross the road to a nearby pond. So why did the salamander cross the road? Because it was safe. Now that I know that salamanders are taken care of, my work here is done. And if you wanna go to an environmentally conscious school with rock star academic opportunities, check out Binghamton University, because I'm Ferrari St. Paul and I said so.
