Hey, what's up Youniversity TV watchers. I'm Nicole Erin and today we're at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Why don't you come tag along with me for our tour?

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is located in the rural town of Mount Vernon in Central Ohio. Plus campus is just a short drive from Columbus, Ohio's capital. MVNU's campus sits on over 400 gently rolling acres with colonial-style brick buildings, beautiful tree-shaded study areas, and a reflection pond complete with gazebo and prayer garden.

I think it is a beautiful place especially on a rural area. It is quiet. It is not a city but it's a recreational city. I think you have immediate access to the city within in about 45 minutes.

And that is Midwest as people think we do have urban areas. We have a lot of rural areas as well. And the cultural, I was on the website the other day in a multicultural Ohio's phenomenal how unique we are historically.

Once upon a time this campus is the farm of President Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of the Interior, Columbus Delano.

It's a small campus. So it's not hard to find people. You know pretty much everyone or you've seen everyone and that's a great thing, you don't get lost. I didn't know anyone when I came here. And this is--I have so many friends and this is my home.

Just across campus is Kokosing Gap Trail along the Kokosing River, where students can ride their bike, walk or just take in beautiful scenery.

MVNU has a total enrollment of about 2,600 students, 7 percent come from out-of-state and the students and faculty ratio is 16 to 1.

Student profile is changing. We're excited about bringing university to the student body and even to the faculty and staff as well.

Admission is open to students who hold a GPA of 2.5 or higher and an ACT composite of 19 or above or comparable SAT score of 950.

We also have references that we have a teacher and a pastor or someone close to your family that fills up for you. And we tend to look seriously at those just to see what other people have to say about you as well. We want students to come to school here and we want to give everyone the opportunity.

Tuition runs around 19,000 dollars a year, a room costs about 3,000 dollars plus a food service fees close to 2,500 dollars. Financial assistance is available including scholarships, work study, campus employment, and grants. The average financial aid award is over 16,000 dollars a year. Mount Vernon offers over 80 academic programs and majors. The top 5 favorites are business, early childhood education, nursing, biology, and communication.

Cultural diversity class is an opportunity for students to take a class and really learn a lot about all kinds of diversity. And I'm excited about teaching the class 'cause it gives me an opportunity not only to interface with student but also to share historically and even up-to-date things that are going on in their world, and teaching a little bit about this whole thing of cultural diversity and human diversity.

There are 138 full-time professors at MVNU, 60 percent hold a PhD or terminal degree.

If I need help, I can go to some of professor in the office. They give me their phone number or something either the home phone number, the email address. Some of them give me their aim. You can get in contact with them. They will help you and they really, they want you to do good.

Our class sizes are small and so we can give a lot of one on one help. Students can come into my office anytime during the week and get help. There are some online things on Blackboard, a platform called Blackboard where if they have a question, you know in the middle of the night they can put it on the discussion board in Blackboard and then I can answer it.

The MVNU Cougar Athletics compete at the National Christian College Athletic Association and 10 varsity level sports. And KC the cougar cheers them along at the games. About 78 percent of undergraduates live on campus in the female residence halls, Pioneering Galilei, or the male residence halls, Oakwood and Redwood. Plus, there are 102 townhouse-style apartments on campus if that's more of your style.

It was great. I was kind of nervous about it at first living with 40 other guys. It was very appealing to me but it was really cool, just the sense of community that's in the dorm. It's like nothing else really and a lot of those are my best fiends now.

Mount Vernon students can choose now for over 50 student-led clubs from service to science fiction and politics and place.

About 85 percent of the student population participates. It's really cool.

Mount Vernon is now producing its own biodiesel from vegetable oil waste. They produce up to 90 gallons per day and they can fill everything from lawn mowers to snow machine.

Hmm, smells like fries. Do you want to fill up on ministry, travel, become an educator or enter the medical field, chose a career that fits you and grow while living the MVNU experience at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Well I'm sure glad you've tagged along with me today on our campus tour. I'm Nicole Erin, good bye from Youniversity TV.
