Welcome to YOUniversity TV. I'm Ferrari St. Paul and today we're touring the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, where the motto is "Green looks good on you!" The University of Wisconsin Green Bay is on the border of the bay, just 10 minutes from downtown Green Bay and only 30 minutes from Door County, one of the Midwest's premier vacation destinations. Downtown is fantastic. We have quite a few bodies of water in Green Bay here. There is the bike trails along the river, which is good for rollerblading, biking, walking. There's also the farmer's market during the summer months and then there are the coffee shops. They have live music and they have local art. Green Bay's campus is surrounded by 270 acres of arboretum, which has several miles of public recreational trails for walking and bicycling. You'll also find a brand new recreation center, a performing arts center, and a golf course. I like it that it's so green, so calm, and I'm the kind of person who likes nature, who likes peace, likes to have their own space. That's what I love about this place. On a rainy day, there's no reason to get wet on your way to class. These underground tunnels connect all the academic classrooms and University Union. They stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Love it! UW Green Bay's total student body is a little over 6, 200 students. They come from 71 Wisconsin counties, thirty-nine states, and 27 countries. Sixty-five percent of students are female, and there are over 400 students of color. I think this school is all about people, and as soon as you come in, the people in admissions that are gonna give you your tour are there to help you and they want to make sure that you succeed, and I think that's across the board with students, faculty, and staff. Each applicant is reviewed by UW Green Bay based on high school records, GPA score, ACT, or SAT score, leadership and extracurricular involvement, and the applicant's statement. The average incoming freshman has a GPA of 3.3, and an ACT score of 23. We know from research that the students who are most likely to be successful here, both in terms of their grade point average and their retention to graduation are students who have engaged outside of the classroom through clubs or organizations. Tuition for full-time Wisconsin residents is approximately $14,000 per year, while out-of-state tuition is closer to $22,000, including room and board. Students from Minnesota, Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Indiana may qualify for reduced tuition under a reciprocity agreement or through the Midwest Student Exchange Program. The University of Wisconsin Green Bay offers approximately forty majors and a number of pre-professional programs. Business administration, psychology, human development, human biology, and elementary education are just a few of the student favorites. Many of the faculties in our department really promote active learning strategies within the classroom, so students aren't just sitting there listening to us spout off for an hour. They are active and engaged in what's happening in the classroom and feel like they're part of the process, and we really do take their feedback seriously. Wisconsin-Green Bay has strong environmental science and human biology programs. Students work with all sorts of organisms, even tadpoles and frogs. UW Green Bay has about 140 full time tenure-track faculty members-- 97% hold a PhD or the highest degree in their field. The current Wisconsin Poet Laureate and the recipient of the UW System Teaching Excellence Award are both members of Green Bay's faculty. What I enjoy about our faculty here is they are involved with the student body and they put a lot of hours in off the clock with us, whether it be staying after class or setting up that meeting that works on our schedule to help us better understand something. The campus offers fourteen Division I athletic teams that compete in the Horizon League. The Phoenix women's basketball team earned post-season play for eleven seasons straight, including eight trips to the NCAA tournament. We have a really good women's basketball team and we can view their games for free, and there's a lot of different variety of sports like volleyball, basketball, cross country running, and football, golf... There's a ton. For all you football fans, Lambeau Field is a downtown Green Bay hot spot. That's right, the Packers' home turf is right through those gates! About 2,000 residents live on campus in apartments, residence halls, and suites. Those who are lucky even get a view of the nine-hole golf course. The recreation center, new Kress events center, and the main campus are just a few minutes away. We have our own bathroom, everything is carpeted. We have nice walls, nice furniture. In the traditional apartments, they're two-bedroom apartments for four people and we have a kitchen and a living room and outside entrance. Green Bay has about 90 student clubs and organizations and if you like golf, the green is where it's at. Phlash the Phoenix and I are playing a few holes here at the Shorewood Golf Course right on campus. Or if you just want to grab a cup of coffee, head down to Broadway to satisfy your java craving. Beyond the three T's-- you know, the tunnels, the toilets, and trees because it is a gorgeous campus. It's a beautiful place to live. The reason to come to UW-GB is the interdisciplinary approach to education, hands down-- no "ifs," "ands," or "buts" about it. So if you're looking for a university with a beautiful and safe campus and state-of-the-art facilities, check into the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. For graduation, to say good bye to Green Bay, students throw their shoes up into this tree. So, in the spirit of UW Green Bay and to end our tour today... I'm Ferrari St. Paul, and I'll see you later!
