Welcome to the University of New Hampshire. I’m Ferrari St. Paul and you are stuck with me today. So let’s go on a tour. What are you doing? Come on. University of New Hampshire is located in the quintessential New England college town of Durham. I’m gonna check it out with my friend Beth here, we’re gonna grab some coffee. What do you do around here? Like, where are we? We’re on Main Street. This is it, it’s just pretty much from there to there. This is actually one of my favorite places to be on campus, Breaking New Grounds. It’s good to hang out, but it’s also, I come to study here too, it's nice to get out of the dorm room every once in a while and take a break from the library and study on, you know, right here in the coffee shop. It’s a gorgeous campus in a gorgeous setting, so, um, that’s a real plus. And the locale, it’s a small town, but it’s very close to other, you know... The historic town of Portsmouth is nearby, twenty minutes away, Boston’s only a little over an hour away. You can be to the ocean in twenty minutes, but you can be up in the mountains in an hour. So the location, location, location. And if you think you might want to venture outside of UNH, there’s an Amtrak train station right on campus. Both Boston and Portland, Maine are just an hour ride away. New Hampshire has about 12,000 undergraduates from 43 countries and about 57% of the student body is from within the state. 85% of classes have less than 50 students, only 6% have more than 100, and the student to faculty ratio is 18:1. Approximately 75% of students enrolling into the University of New Hampshire rank in the top 30% of their high school graduating class. In-state tuition and fees is roughly $12,000 a year, out-of-state tuition and fees is about $25,500, and the average room and board will cost a student close to $9,000. UNH offers over 100 majors across five bachelor degree schools and colleges, as well as the Thompson School, a two year associate degree program that combines a traditional learning environment with hands-on opportunities. We do a lot of hands-on stuff, it’s really cool. Everything from projects building race cars to, you know, wind tunnels and all kinds of really, really cool hands-on stuff that teaches us a lot. Mechanical engineering students have a pretty sweet gig. They get to use the skills they develop in the classroom to construct these racecars. And then they get to take it on the road! Which they didn’t let me do. But they get to take it on the road and compete against other schools in the country. Some favorites are liberal arts, English, communications, political science, business administration, psychology, and biology. One of my most popular classes is a course on the New Hampshire primary. So every four years we have this big political circus here in New Hampshire. And I have students who work on campaigns, we bring in political candidates, we bring in operatives from the top levels of campaigns so they can meet these people, hear them, go out and actually get their hands dirty in the political world, and take advantage of that opportunity that they have in New Hampshire that really isn’t available anywhere else in the country. The University of New Hampshire employs 630 full time faculty members, and 84% hold their doctorate or terminal degree. I have a lot of close relationships with professors and they’re looking for you to do well, they challenge you. They challenge you a lot. But if you have the motivation and, you know, are willing to put the work in, you can do really well and do great things. New Hampshire Wildcats compete at the Division I level. Right now we’re in the Whit, where the men’s ice hockey team faces off. And this handsome fellow right here, he’s a regular at home games. When the Wildcats score their first goal, fans throw fish onto the ice. Whooo! There’s a lot of variety at UNH when it comes to dorm living, with 28 residence halls from large to small learning environments, themed options, suites, and apartment style. Depending on your interests and your major you can pick a certain residence hall, and especially as an incoming freshman, I think it’s really important to live in the residence hall because that’s where you get most of your college friends at and the floor community is just so close. They do a lot of fun activities together, they study together. There are more than 200 clubs and organizations at UNH from fine arts to politics, or go Greek. There are clubs starting from a cooking club to a knitting club, to people who just read poetry, theater club. So any of your interests, they can be accommodated. UNH is also expected to be the first university in the nation to receive a majority of its power from a renewable resource. The landfill gas project, ECOLine, will pump methane gas from a landfill 13 miles north to power UNH’s cogeneration plant. If you’re concerned about the environment, you’ll fit right in at UNH. It's the first land grant university with an organic dairy research farm. Isn't that right? Yes, we like it. Are you “udderly” over the college search? Stress no more. Empower yourself and fill out an application for the University of New Hampshire today. Well I’m just relaxing and enjoying the end of our crazy fun day here at the University of New Hampshire here in College Woods, a great place for students to walk, relax, snowshoe, or read a book, as I’m doing. So I’m gonna get back to this. I’ll see you later.
