Hey, what's up Youniversity TV watchers? Today, we're at Tennessee Tech University. I'm Nicole Erin. [Laughter] Was that your name?

But sometimes I'm Ferrari St. Paul and I am so ready for this tech school with my cool tech toys. Let's go check out what else there is.

 Alright. So let's go.

Tennessee Tech is located in the heart of the scenic Cumberland Plateau in Middle Tennessee surrounded by many beautiful state parks and natural areas.

The upper Cumberland area is a geographically beautiful area. We're at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Fall colors are particularly splendid in this area.

And we just opened up the skating rink, there's like cyber [inaudible], bowling. There's just a lot of anything really and we're really in great distance. If you wanted to go to like Nashville, it's really easy to go. If you wanna go to say a Tide's game or something like that.

Tennessee Tech University's beautiful 235-acre main campus is characterized by stately mature trees and beautiful foliage. The university's 88 brick buildings all maintained their traditional Georgian style architecture across campus.

Tennessee Tech has over 8,000 undergrads, 8 percent are minorities, 51 percent are female and 49 percent male. The student to faculty ratio is 18 to 1 with an average class size of 26.

Looking for a student that is strong in academics as well as a student who is looking to getting involved in our campus life. When we offer scholarships to students, we look at their leadership ability as well as their past experience and their participation in other organizations, whether it be with their church, whether it be with their community coming down to just the nitty gritty of their grades in ACT.

The average incoming freshman should have a GPA score of 2.5, an ACT of 19 or an SAT of 900 to be considered for acceptance.

Instate students will pay a yearly tuition rate of about 5,500 dollars, while those coming from out of state will pay closer to 16,500 dollars. The additional cost for room and board comes to about 7,000 dollars.

Tennessee Tech offers 44 bachelor's degrees, 20 graduate programs including MBA, EDS and PhD. Some favorites among students are education, engineering and business.

Tell me about where we are and how technology is filtered into your classes.

So one of the unique things about the College of Education here at Tennessee Tech is our entire program revolves around the use of technology. We allow our students to check out a variety of different types of media, iPods, iPod Touches. Most of the rooms, a cart, and these carts have 21 laptops and the students have the ability as they're receiving instruction if there's a web based activity, they can just grab a laptop from the cart, get on the web and conduct a research.

Electrical engineering students work in this high-voltage high-current lab to test how thermal stress will affect the light of this current transformer.

During testing, there can be between 1200 and 3600 amps of current flowing to the primary winding of this transformer. Don't touch that.

Nicole, there's no voltage. I can't get hurt.

 Oh, that's cool.

 Don't do this at home.

But if you're interested in more stuff like this then you need to check out TTU yourself.

[ Laughter ]

Here more than 75 percent of faculty members holding PhD's at Tennessee Tech University.

Don't be fooled, just because it's a tech school, doesn't mean TTU can't bring it with sports.

There are 16 golden eagle varsity teams that compete in the NCAA Division I level in the Ohio Valley Conference.

But these athletes are also a bunch of smarty pants.

It just so happens that the softball team has been recently ranked to have the highest team GPA.

 In the nation. Let's play.

 You're going down.

 You're ready to go down?

Haha, I'm like Agassi out here.

 Whatever.

Gold spirit is extreme here at Tech. Even whenever you probably drove in, you saw on the street signs, they're purple and gold. That's extreme. It's amazing. Some of my girlfriends would come down here and they're like, "Wow, I love your school spirit." That's so awesome. I said, yeah, that's Tech. We're cool, like that. Great.

[ Knocking ]

 Hi come on in.

Thanks Brittany for showing us your room. There's so many housing options for students to choose from. There is co-ed, single sex, international, business, engineering, Oh, and there are apartment style complexes for upperclassmen. This place is amazing.

 Thanks.

I wish I was living in here with you,

I love living in the residence halls. Really I have no desire to live off campus because it's so much fun. I live in the girls' dorm and all the girls are just really sweet. They always have their doors open. We hang out and we go running or, you know, do homework together.

TTU is home to nearly 200 clubs and organizations and 11 intramural and club sports.

If you sound like your people, you're right on track with notable TTU alums including country music superstar Rodney Atkins, along with the former president of Boeing, a space shuttle astronaut, four-star general and more. So, no need to stress up here in the Cumberland Plateau. It's another world at Tennessee Tech University.

Well, that's the end of our tour at TTU. Nicole and I are finishing off the day with a little football practice from the sidelines of course.

We hope you had as much fun as we did and we hope you check out this campus for yourself. See you next time.

 Bye-bye.
