[ Laughter ] Guess what, guys? We're in Tennessee and I'm Nicole Aaron [assumed spelling] and you're watching YouniversityTV. 

 And I'm Ferrari St. Paul, and we're here to check out the southern hospitality at East Tennessee State University. Let's go!

 East Tennessee State University is located in Johnson City, Tennessee, in southern Appalachians nestled in the ridges and valleys of [inaudible] Mountain, the Great Smoky Mountains and the majestic forests of West North Carolina. 

 You can go camping, whitewater rafting, skiing within an hour's drive. 

 Boone is just like an hour and a half away, and we actually went snowboarding one weekend. That was pretty fun. 

 ETSU's main campus in Johnson City consists of over 350 acres and 63 academic and administrative buildings. Adjacent to the main campus is the 247-acre James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. 

 ETSU is a Tennessee Urban Forestry Council certified arboretum. There are over 120 species of trees identified right here on campus. 

 ETSU has over 11,000 undergrads, 41 percent men and 58 percent women, with an average class size of about 28 students. 

 The typical ETSU student would be one probably from this region. We're very much a regional institution, although we have students from every state in the union and many foreign students as well. The majority of our students are Tennesseans, about 85 percent. 

 First time freshmen must present a minimum composite ACT score of 19 or a comparable SAT combined score, or must earn a minimum high school GPA of 2.3. 

 In-state students pay an average yearly tuition of $5,500, while those from out-of-state pay closer to $16,500. In addition, housing and meals cost approximately $5,500 a year. 

 ETSU offers over 100-degree programs and master's degrees in most liberal arts disciplines, and technical and professional fields. 

 ETSU's nursing program is ranked fifth in the nation, so really that's one of the things that brought me here and yeah, it's; we have so many great programs here. I mean, especially medical and business. 

 East Tennessee has one of the few fully accredited graduate programs in storytelling in the United States. 

[ Thundering sound ] ETSU is more than a memory for alum and country music award winner Kenny Chesney, who graduated from the bluegrass program. 

 ETSU has 686 full-time faculty members; 75 percent hold their terminal degree. 

 The faculty that I work with are probably the best faculty on this campus. We have such a very diverse faculty group here that have expertise in many areas. 

 We still try to give a lot of personal attention to each student. Here on our campus, we do not want you to be just a number; we want you to be an individual, and we provide a lot of advisement and personal peer to each student. 

 I think this one's going to break to the right. 

 I agree. 

 The Buccaneers compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Atlantic Sun Conference. They have won both men's and women's conference All-Sport trophies and 17 titles. 

 And the golf team has been ranked in the top ten in the nation.

 The intramural sports; it's really easy to join a team. Even if you can't get enough people to play on your team, you can become a free agent, and really what happens is you put in an application and then a team will draft you. So, I mean if you want to play on an intramural sports team, you will be on a team. You don't have to worry about not getting to play. 

 ETSU students have their choice of 12 traditional style residence halls, efficiency, private room, fully furnished apartment or family housing. 

 I love living on campus. You get, you get to meet so many more people living on campus than you would living off campus. And you get to be more in tune with what's going on with the university while living on campus. 

 So, you can get really involved at ETSU, whether it's being in a fraternity or a sorority, or if you want to get involved faith-based, like the Wesley Foundation or the Student Baptist Association, or also clubs within your major like ours for marketing is the American Marketing Association. So, we have a whole bunch of opportunities for the students to get involved. 

 We got to come and do the rope course [inaudible], just skill building and you know, getting to know everybody. And that was fun because, you know, unique; kind of everybody cheers you on and it's just a different kind of physical activity that most people aren't used to. 

 There is definitely a creative vibe here at ETSU. There are students studying arts from visual to performing. They're doing sculpting, painting, vocal music; there's even a minor in bluegrass performance. 

 We just so happened to hear these jazz ensemble students practicing and we had to check them out. One, two three, four!

 The Department of Kinesiology, Leisure and Sport Sciences is partnered with Bristol Motor Speedway. Together, they designed a graduate track to better prepare students entering the field of motor sports. 

 No need to burn rubber; at East Tennessee State University, there's a fast track to the good stuff.
