Hey, what's up guys, I'm Shayna Jean and this is YOUniversity TV, where we put "you" in "university." Today we are at Weber State University home of the Wildcats. Weber State is located in Ogden, Utah which is a high adventure hot spot surrounded by mountain peaks, the great Salt Lake and two rivers. And features a historic downtown plus great access to outdoor activities. There's a lot of skiing, snowboarding, fly fishing. There's hiking trails just right above the University. As well as shopping, there's a mall right here. Ogden's a fairly decent sized city so there's plenty to do in Ogden as well. Give your college experience a lift, Weber State is located at the base of Mount Ogden, the perfect place to learn how to snowplow through the powder. Here I go. Weber State enrolls more than 18,000 students, 93 percent of which are undergrads and the male to female ratio is an even 50-50. Students come from 50 U.S. states and 37 countries. There's a huge range of students, like tons of diversity which is so fun 'cause it's great to learn about other cultures and see things outside of what you're used to. Weber State University is an open admission school. They just need to submit their application, submit their high school transcript and pay the application fee to be admitted. In order to qualify for certain programs and get certain scholarships we do require the ACT. Tuition for Utah residents is a tremendous value, at around 4,000 per year. Out-of-staters pay around 11,000 dollars per year. On campus room and board ranges from 3,500 to 4,500 dollars a year, depending on residence hall and floor plan. Weber is known for having the most comprehensive undergraduate program offerings in Utah, with 215 different majors from Accounting to Zoology. And the ability to design your own degree through the Bachelor of Integrated Studies Program. Some of the most popular majors include Nursing, Business Administration, Teacher Education, Automotive Technology and Criminal Justice. In our Auto Tech program the students, they're sponsored by GM, Ford, Diamond Chrysler and they bring the cars in every, about every eight months, every eight to nine months they get brand new vehicles so they get to get the hands on experience on the brand new vehicles. Weber State has nearly 1,000 full and part-time faculty members, about 85 percent of which have a PhD or their terminal degree. I've felt just so loved by the faculty, I have really great relationships with them. I feel like I can go talk to them about anything when I have questions and it's just really great to know that they're there to help me succeed. Students at Weber State University are extremely important, that's our number one priority. They come first. We try to hold classes with low numbers, laboratories especially with low numbers so you can have faculty to student interaction. Face-off or work on your figure eights, the Wildcat hockey team plays at the Weber Ice Sheet. Students also like to come here and lace up their skates between classes. Thirteen Weber State Wildcat men's and women's athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Big Sky Conference. --the play's back behind him, goes back the drill, has protected it, it's breaking down and he's gonna go down, sacked back at the 40 by the "Sack Master" Rio Stutler. Rio had it in-- That's the sound of a Wildcat win. When the Weber football team finishes on top, the head coach rings this victory bell here at Stewart Stadium. Weber offers housing for around 800 students in three different housing areas at the Ogden campus. We have dorms called University Village and they were built for the Olympics so they're really, really nice and way fun and we have lots of fun student activities over there, and it's great to live there your first year for sure 'cause you meet so many people. Whatever your interests and hobbies, Weber has more than 100 social, academic, and athletic clubs and countless activities available. They just built this center called the Salomon Center and there they have indoor skydiving, and like glow in the dark miniature golf. They have a full-size track, they have a swimming pool, a racquetball court, basketball courts, volleyball courts, all the free weights you could ever want, the elliptical machines and whatnot. One of Weber's most popular perks is the Wilderness Recreation Center which offers outdoor equipment rentals, discount ski passes and group hiking, skiing and camping trips across the state. As well as courses on everything from equipment upkeep to avalanche awareness. Most people recognize Weber State University because of their basketball team, which has pulled off some of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history including perhaps their greatest victory which was a 1999 first round win over number three seed North Carolina. Our basketball team is really good and last year they, along with one other school in Utah, were the only ones from Utah that went to the NCAA. I bleed a dark shade of purple, I love going to the games and the activities and whatnot. So if you're looking for a University that offers the same quality of education as big name universities with a more welcoming attitude and without the sky-high tuition, be sure to check out Weber State University. Thank you so much for joining us in Ogden, Utah on our tour of Weber State University. I'm Shayna Jean, so long from the slopes. Number one baby! Number one!
