Welcome to California State University Fresno. I’m Ferrari Saint Paul, and today we are beginning our tour in the on-campus winery. That’s right, on-campus winery, where student produced wine has won hundreds of awards. Let’s go see what else this school has to offer. California State University Fresno is located at the northeast edge of Fresno, California at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, home to Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks. Fresno State is within an hour drive of the mountains and lake resorts, as well as a three to four hour drive to both Los Angeles and San Francisco. All around town, um, Fresno... one thing I can say about Fresno, they’re really-- it’s really a college town. So when you come here, there’s gonna be a lot of stuff geared toward the college students. So, a lot of stuff is gonna be on campus, but off campus you got your, you know, your occasional mall, movie theater, and you also got the river park, which kinda, like... I wanna look at it like kind of like a-- not a downtown, but just like a plaza area where everybody can walk around to Cold Stone, Barnes and Noble, you know, go shopping at Nordstrom's and whatnot. The 388 acre main campus features more than 46 traditional and modern buildings. And has an arboretum with more than 4,000 trees, plants, shrubs, and flowers. Fresno State is also home to a 1,011 acre University Farm laboratory, where students produce fruits, nuts, and vegetable crops, livestock and dairy products, olive oil, and award winning wine. And even introduced a new coffee blend. The University Farm is considered to be one of the most modern and best equipped agricultural facilities in the state. So Jackie, tell me where we are right now. Well, right now we’re in the Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market which is the place that all of the products produced here on Fresno State's campus are actually available to the public for purchase. And one of the things that’s really interesting about Fresno State is that we have a full working farm here on campus. We have about 1,100 acres of farm land, and we have lots of different units. And those units are called enterprises. We have 23 student run enterprises here on campus. And that means that students do everything from plant crops, take care of them, to every day they’re, you know, milking our cows on campus, they take care of our hogs and the horses that we have on campus, they process the milk into ice cream and cheese and different things like that. And all those products end up here at the Farm Market. The University enrolls more than 22,000 students, 59 percent women and 41 percent men. The student to professor ratio is 20 to 1. We talk about it as the new California. It is a tremendously culturally diverse area. So if you want to come to an environment that really represents the future world in which we have a tremendous diversity, this would be the place to come. The average GPA of admitted students is 3.25, and the average combined SAT score is 923. The average full time freshman will pay an annual tuition of $3,500 and an additional $14,500 in living expenses on or near campus. Fresno State offers 56 undergraduate, 46 masters, and 2 doctoral degree programs. The great thing about our program is that students do work alongside professors. And the professors that are at State are all from forensic crime labs themselves. Both state, local, and federal crime labs. So they get first hand experience with practitioners in the field. The top five majors are Business, Education, Criminology, Nursing, and Psychology. This is the Joyce M. Huggins Center, and it’s one of several early childhood centers on the Fresno State campus. The centers provide a couple of services. They provide child care for students who are attending California State University Fresno, and students have top priority to come to any of the child care centers here on campus. It’s also a lab school for programs in the School of Education. The Sid Craig School of Business is considered one of the best in the Western United States. In fact, Princeton Review has rated it in the top 45 in the nation. Fresno State employs 1,100 full time and part time faculty members. 96 percent of the tenured faculty hold doctoral or other terminal degrees in their areas of study. I love my professors. Especially Econ and Political Science, which are my main majors, I mean, I love the professors. They’re really open and willing to help students. Sixteen varsity Bulldog teams compete at the Division I level, NCAA of course, and the Western Athletic Conference. The men’s baseball team certainly hit one outta the park when they won the 2008 Men’s College World Series. So we all know that living on campus is obviously the best option, especially for your first year. ‘Cause you’re near everything. And here, at University Courtyard you have furnished suite style rooms with around the clock security. Ooh, and pretty comfy beds. And it wouldn’t be complete without this fabulous pool. There are more than 200 clubs, including 40 Greek letter fraternities and sororities. Plus, plenty of on campus activities are provided throughout the year like football game tailgates and lunchtime concerts, to campus-wide major celebrations, such as Vintage Days and Homecoming. Well that’s our tour, and how fitting that we end it at the alumni house, which is where Fresno State will welcome you back when you’re an alum. But first, you gotta check out the school for yourself. See ya.
