Hey guys, I'm Ferrari St. Paul, and this is YOUniversity TV where we put "you" in "university." Today we are touring Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, aka "The Little Easy." The University of Mississippi sits between the rolling hills of Northern Mississippi in the town of Oxford. Oxford is beautiful and charming. As they say; it's a small town with big city culture and style. Oxford's also where literary giant William Faulkner called home. He lived in this house right here called Rowan Oak. Let's take a look inside. Oxford is listed in the best 100 small towns in America, and featured in the most beautiful cities in the south. The heart of Oxford's 1100 acre campus known as "The Grove," is a place for tailgating, attending concerts, or just sitting back, relaxing and studying in the shade of the magnolia and oak trees. It was designed by the guy that did Central Park. On football Saturdays it serves as a class reunion for seven, seven weekends out of the year. Thousands of people just out to support the Rebels. A sea of tents, and it's everything from women in cocktail dresses to kids in sweatshirts and shorts and flip flops, it's really exciting. UM has nearly 13,000 undergraduate students. Fifty-three percent women, 47 percent men. Thirty-three percent of undergraduates come from out of state, 19 percent are minorities and international students from 66 different nations. I'll just say if we get you here on campus and they look around at the campus and they meet the people, they meet professors they meet other students, staff members, they'll decide to come here. All students completing the college preparatory curriculum with a minimum 3.2 high school GPA will be automatically admitted. Those completing the CPC with a 2.5 GPA must have a minimum ACT score of 16 or a 760 on the SAT. For more info on this check out Ole Miss's website at olemiss.edu. I just fell in love with the Ole Miss family and it felt like home right off the bat. If you live in Mississippi tuition will run about $5,000, while out of staters will pay about $12,500. Plus, all students will be charged an average of $3,500 a year for their on campus pad. Mississippi offers more than 100 academic programs including the only comprehensive Chinese program in the region, and harder to find majors like geological engineering and forensic chemistry. We have the only daily student newspaper in the state which truly is one of the best in the country, there are awards to prove it. Ole Miss is the largest employer in Lafayette county giving 817 teaching jobs, 298 are even tenured. The student to faculty ratio is 19 to one, not bad for such a large school. Faculty are outstanding here, they know you by name. They really want you to succeed and they'll bend over backwards and go the extra mile to make sure that you reach your goals. Eighteen men's and women's Rebels teams compete in the southeastern conference of the NCAA Division I level. The Rebel football teams have claimed three national championships and six southeastern conference titles, won 19 ballgames and sent over 200 players to the NFL including quarterback Eli Manning who threw a touchdown in the last 35 seconds of the game, leading the New York Giants to win the 2008 Super Bowl. And former football player Archie Manning's jersey number is the speed limit when you're cruising through school streets. We're just really passionate about being Ole Miss Rebels. Ole Miss has 13 on campus men's and women's residence halls and apartment facilities. In addition to the various sorority and fraternity housing you'll find on campus. In the dorms are where I met all of my friends, it's really convenient, we are within ten minutes from every class. We have convenience stores in the residence halls so you never ever have to leave. You'll find more than 200 student organizations on campus. There are several international organizations and a visual and performing arts club. Everything from social groups to political groups, to community service groups, special interest groups. We have a vibrant Greek life here on campus. You can get involved with anything. If they don't have it, you can make it. Interested in research? From physical acoustics to medical studies, it's all happening here. In a government approved project with the National Institute for Drug Abuse, the University is allowed to grow Cannabis to study its addictive qualities as well as its medical benefits in patient care. You know, we have so many National Research Institutes the National Center for Physical Acoustics, one of the really unique things that they did was after the World Trade Center bombing we sent a lot of our new research equipment to go and check for the stability of building two. That sort of research is really important to the Nation and it's going on at the University of Mississippi. Dun, dun, dun, dun nah, I got the Blues. Ole Miss's Blues archive houses the world's most extensive Blues collection. It even includes all of B.B. King's personal records. If you're looking for a large university where you can stand out and you can have your own niche and you can know a lot of people but never know everybody, Ole Miss is the place for you. Set up a meet and greet at the University of Mississippi today. Thanks for joining us here in Oxford, Mississippi on our tour of the University of Mississippi. I'm Ferrari St. Paul and I will see you around campus.
