Hey, what's up guys? I'm Sheana Jeanne and this is Youniversity TV, where we put you in university. Today, we are at Missouri Southern State University, home of the Lions [inaudible].

 Missouri Southern State is located in the city of Joplin, Missouri, a Route 66 [inaudible] which is just a couple of hours from Tulsa, Kansas City, and Springfield, as well as entertainment hub, Branson, Missouri. Joplin serves as the gateway of the Ozark's and offers lots of exciting outdoor activities. 

 I really feel like there's something for everybody to find out here at Southern. 

 We go to a fall. They're like, "The falls? What falls?" like a little waterfall and just go out there and hang out. But there's other things people really don't know about. I'm still seeking to find out like I didn't know we had water parks here. 

 Missouri Southern State University features an attractive 373 acre campus with plenty of trees and green space, plus modern buildings. Behind the campus, we have a creek called Turkey Creek. I take a zoology class and we studied microorganisms and so we did the research project on it and collected around samples and analyze them and then came up with the report and how it was doing, I guess biologically. 

 Missouri Southern State enrolls approximately 5600 students with a population of about 55 percent female to 45 percent male. Do you have what it takes to get into Missouri Southern State? 

 We have three different criteria for admission. We ask that you meet one. Either a 2.25 GPA, a 21 or above on your ACT, or that you're in the top 50 percent of your graduating class. We have about a 98 percent acceptance rate which is outstanding. 

 Missouri Southern State has the lowest tuition rate of any Missouri 4-year college or university, which runs 143 dollars per credit hour for Missouri resident, and 286 dollars per credit hour for nonresidents. No more showing out big bucks for books. 

 At Missouri Southern's bookstore, you can rent a textbook for as little as 21 dollars a semester. What a deal, huh? 

 Missouri Southern State University has a great reputation for its statewide international mission with award theme semester programs each fall that focus on a particular country or region of the world. 

 Right now, we have the China semester and there are just a lot of events. There are things going on every week that relate to China. 

 Plus, with more than 100 degree options, students have many choices to chart an exciting future. 

 [Inaudible] I need that witness now. Oh, hello. Welcome to CSI Missouri. MSSU is well-known for their hands-on program criminal justice. Some of the most popular majors are teacher education, including early childhood, elementary, secondary education, business, nursing, and allied health professions. 

 At Missouri Southern, maintaining a picture perfect smile is as simple as stopping by this on campus clinic. MSSU has a hands-on dental hygiene program. Even if you're not a dentist student, you can stop by for some reduced cost cleaning. Alright ladies, fix me up. 

 With an average class size of just 24, professors are able to give their students the maximum amount of personal academic attention in modern state of the art facilities. 

 Coolest class on campus is when I teach of course. It's called "portfolio management" and the students actually manage 300,000 dollars of the university's money in an investment portfolio, mostly investment stocks. This year so far, we're about double what the stock market is. So wrap about 16 percent. 

 16 men's and women's, 9 athletic teams compete at the NCAA division 2 level in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which is one of the most competitive conferences in the country.

 Missouri Southern State has residence halls available for on-campus living, and about 700 students choose to call campus home. In addition, all freshmen under 21 who aren't married or live at home are required to live on campus. 

 One thing about living on a campus is that-- 

 You're always here and you know what's going on. 

 You get to meet everybody so much faster. 

 Just walk across the street to come to all the events. 

 It's a really good way of meeting new people. 

 With more than 80 organizations, a strong Greek, and intramural programs, and outstanding cultural events, students at Missouri Southern State University have lots of chances to get involved, get more out of their education, and have some fun along the way. 

 I'm in CAB, which is Campus Activity Board. I've been student senate. Like I said, international club, student alumni. 

 Play some intramurals. I've played sand volleyball, and a little bit of basketball. 

 I mean, there are a lot of things you can on here. We even have a Greek life, so that's someone is interested in that, they can do that. 

 Here's some trivia that you probably didn't know. Some of Missouri Southern States famous alumni include the late movie and television actor, Dennis Weaver, a Gunsmoke fame. NFL football players Rod Smith, James Thrash, and Allen Barbre, as well as a 3-time space shuttle astronaut.
